Take the Awkwardness Out of Dating

    January 25, 2012 • 6:00 am

Did you know that it only takes one-fifth of a second to fall in love? (According to a study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine. And btw, we have to get our hands on that journal). But first you have to go on that inherently awkward first date.

    Wednesday Wonders: Jewel Tones

    January 25, 2012 • 5:11 am

Hi guys! Happy Wednesday and hope you’re having yourself a lovely little week! Lately I have been in love with jewel tones in design and fashion and I thought I’d share some inspiration. There’s something so bold and fun about these saturated colors paired together and I especially love interiors that use jewel tones as accents in more subdued rooms (like that beauty of a room above).

Here are some of my favorite jewel tone wonders:

Blouse: Reiss ($105); Bench: Jonathan Adler ($595); Heels: Dolce Vita ($169); Earrings: Kenneth Jay Lane ($150)

Try pairing a couple of your jewel toned items together in one outfit or room in your home for a modern and playful look.

Which item do you like best? Are you a fan of jewel tones?

    My Bachelor Recap: Episode 4

    January 24, 2012 • 11:16 am

Did you guys tune in to “The Bachelor” last night? Thoughts?

I was a lucky gal because this was my viewing room at the Fairmont:

No better way to watch the show, let me tell you…

In terms of this week’s episode, I felt like there were a few grouches! I know that dating the same guy as a houseful of other girls is NOT ideal but geesh!

Rachel and Ben’s date was interesting because I didn’t really feel like they had much to talk about but then she ended up getting a rose? Interesting… Someone on twitter also mentioned that I sound like her as well which I could totally see!

I really loved Jennifer on this episode. Her date was so me- I would have LOVED that! She seems like such a cool, interesting person and I really thought she and Ben made a cute couple. And, um, Ben is cute?!!!

At the rose ceremony things really hit the fan. If I had to pick a side between Courtney and Emily I’d go for Emily. Yes, I think it was wrong for her to use her time with Ben to talk smack about Courtney – and Courtney DID win on that one, but I KNOW from experience how much that situation can consume you. The littlest things become the hugest things and you lose perspective. Bottom line: Emily noticed something off and wanted to protect herself and someone she was crushing on. I get it. It was wrong but if I'm picking sides then the blonde cutie is it.

THAT said, I also feel for Courtney. I am sure once I meet her after all of this is done I will just love her. Everyone has a good heart and this experience is SO difficult sometimes it brings out the best in you, and sometimes the worst. I also think that Courtney is just getting their quintessential bad edit (but it's working on me!). So until I meet her in person or am otherwise notified, I am not a fan.

I also loved the cutie Kacie B’s rose ceremony outfit- what a babe! And I have to tell you guys, I met a friend of hers at the EMHE Knoxville build and he knew I loved her because he followed me on twitter. Later on that week I saw him at the wrap party and he told me she said to say hi. I told him to tell her to come to the party asap and she did!

I didn't stay for long and neither did she but she was SO adorable, sweet and loveable – so genuine and exactly like you would expect from the show! No spoilers- I didn’t ask her ONE thing about the show, but just told her to hang in there moving forward and to ignore any of the negative press and blogs!

So I want to know: what did you think of Ben sending Samantha home on the date?! And are you team Emily or team Courtney?

Ask Jillian: Pressure from Bachelorette Producers?

    January 23, 2012 • 8:00 am

You guys really came through with some great questions about “The Bachelorette.” I loved reading all of them but I chose a handful to answer over the next few weeks! First up, C Cobr asked: “Any pressure from the producers or Chris Harrison to keep/send home anyone guys in particular? Do you still keep in touch in a friends kind of way with any of the men?"

Food Friday: Cream of Vegetable Soup

    January 20, 2012 • 8:00 am

This is another easy, basic recipe that allows you to use leftover veggies. Remember there are far too many people in this world that go hungry – never throw food away! Any veggies that look like they have seen better days are perfect candidates for this soup... Seriously, whatever you’ve got will do! It does help to have a potato or two, however. Potatoes (or any kind of squash) will add thickness to the soup.
