Jilly's Halloween Handbook: Stylish Costumes
While dressing up the home for Halloween is always a ball, it wouldn’t be a complete Halloween Handbook if we didn’t discuss one of the holiday’s highlights: costumes!
I love to get dressed up so of course I’m always down to get creative with the costumes but the truth is I do have a few tried and true costumes ideas that have remained my all-time favorites.
And while sometimes you’ve just got to go for a costume in a bag, I also enjoy wearing costumes that are made of pieces I’ll actually wear in real life. So I decided to showcase my go-to costumes done with pieces that could be worn in an everyday setting! Not only will the costumes be a bit more stylish but it’s also a lot more cost effective to buy items that you can wear again after Halloween.

Well you guys already know I love anything Native American and Halloween allows me to let out my inner Indian princess! Feather headdresses are actually pretty easy to make with feathers of varied size; a glue gun and a headband. If you’re not feeling crafty check out Etsy for some really cool handmade options. Also, fringe is a huge trend right now so it’s very economical of you to invest in some fringed items for your costume and your wardrobe!
In regards to makeup I say layer on the self-tanner (Sally Hansen makes a wash-off tanner- that makes you look really dark); fill in your brows; go dramatic with dark eyeliner and lots of bronzer! And don’t forget the face paint.
1) JayJays 2) Saks Fifth Avenue 3) My Wardrobe 4) J Brand 5) Sperry Top-sider 6) fred flare 7) Seasons Clothing-Sonia 8) Infinity Shoes 9) StyleBop 10) TOPSHOP 11) Amazon
Stylish sailor is another go-to of mine because it’s so easy, comfortable and cute! Try anything striped, nautical inspired or retro. Faux tattoos are also a fun touch with this costume (think "I love Mom;" sparrow or anchor). Add a sailor’s hat and voila!
1) Monsoon 2) Banana Republic 3) Monsoon 4) Dorothy Perkins 5) Asos 6) Amazon 7) Debenhams 8) Oasis 9) JCPenney 10) Mytheresa
I love this idea because it’s a little outside of the box! If you’re not a natural blonde grab a costume wig to pull off the look. And while you probably wouldn’t overload on this much pink in real life, the outfit’s ingredients are all very wearable on their own!
What do you think of these ideas? Anything you’d wear? I’d love to hear what you planning on going as this Halloween!

Jillian, you said all the right things. I agree with you 110%. God Bless!
I'm Dutch, and I hear jokes all the time about how cheap we are, wooden shoes, etc etc...
I am NEVER offended; it's meant as a joke.
As I've told you before Jillian, keep being yourself; never change for anyone because a few sensitive people don't like what you're doing.

Was browsing the Wildfox Couture website today and look what I came across...should we be offended and boycott Wildfox Couture now?

is this honestly a joke or what
so next week are you gonna tell us how to dress up in black face? you know since you basically just told everyone to go slap some self tanner and bronzer on to look like my race. oh- no? you're not? oh, cause its native american it's ok. riiiiiiiiight
or are you gonna teach people how to be middle eastern? or white? like wtf
why do people think this ok? more specifically- why do NON NATIVES think they have a grasp on why we think its offensive. you make me LOL. are you native? then no, stop. you dont understand why its offensive to wear a headress of stereotype our race as a whole after hundreds of years of opressions...just stop..
and this is coming from an actual native...i dont care if you want to dress up as THE DISNEY CHARACHTER. look like the DISNEY CHARACHTER. the light tan dress, off the shoulder, black wig, the big turqoise necklace, maybe even a racoon stuffed animal. but when you throw a whole bunch of stereotypical native-themed-jargon together mixed with facepaint and called it native american its annoying to see from a natives perspective, offensive, rude.
