How To Make Mondays Not Suck

Can we all just let out a collective, ‘UGH…It’s…Monday…’? Okay, great, I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling better already. It’s no secret, Mondays are the worst. We can’t just hold a grudge and let the entire day go to waste though. Here’s a couple of ways to give Monday the makeover it so desperately deserves. First of all, Sunday Funday, while you make a fantastic best friend and we love you, it’s time to get real.

I actually can’t think of a worse way to start the week than with a hot mess end to the weekend. The entire day doesn’t have to be devoted to grocery lists and laundry, but if not now, then when? It’s already tough to stomach the sound of an early morning alarm, so bottomless mimosas all Sunday afternoon aren’t going to do you any favors. Non-sucky Mondays start on Sunday get yourself together and reap the benefits when Monday rolls around. Hit up the market for some fresh flowers to put next to your bed and wash your sheets! Nothing feels better than waking up in clean bedding, although… that could make it hard to get out of bed. My favorite way to start the day is setting my alarm 15 minutes early, jumping out of bed, opening the blinds (if it’s light out…Gah!!!) and blasting music.

Make a playlist, music is the cure for any bad mood. Whether you prefer coffee house acoustic or something more upbeat, the right playlist can help you kick the day off on the right foot. We made a Monday Morning Mix incase you don’t have time to…because, bottomless mimosas. We warned you!

Diamonds are great, but planners are a girl’s real best friend. Before the start of each week, map it out. I use my iCal to schedule everything and I mean EVERYTHING. Besides work commitments, I pencil in workouts, meals and what I like to call, “blank” time. That’s when I can scroll through Instagram, read, just breathe or nap without feeling guilty.

When the mid-day slump sneaks up on you, the best thing you can do is go home and take a nap, I doubt that’s an option though. Instead, try calling someone you love!

It’s so easy to get caught up in the day and forget about everything and everyone else. When you hit Monday’s rock bottom — for instance when you spill coffee all over your new dress — call someone, immediately. It’s tough to be a Debbie Downer when your Mom tells you how beautifully her garden is growing or when your bestie relays a ridiculous Tinder-fail.

One surefire way to turn a terrible case of the Mondays around is to treat yo’self. Although Instagram would suggest otherwise, it doesn’t have to be with a cupcake.

If cupcakes are your jam, go for it, hell — get the sprinkles too! Another option — whip up the Aloha Colada smoothie from Fraiche Nutrition, it definitely does not suck on a Monday. For a little extra pep in your step, add some chia seeds, they’ll give you an extra boost of natural energy!

A treat doesn’t have to just be food-related though, try getting something that will improve your day to day life. We’ve been dying to get our hands on this amazing Aritzia jacket that could brighten up any old Monday.

When all else fails and Monday just can’t be saved, make plans to celebrate it coming to an end. Happy Hour with your girlfriends or your love can take the day from zero to hero before you finish your first drink. There’s nothing margaritas and tacos can’t fix right???

Our other favorite after work activity is a good ol’ sweat-sesh. Head to the gym and workout all those frustrations. If you’re more of an out-home workout kinda girl, check out some of the fitness tips on my Pinterest “Fitness Love” page!

  1. How do I handle Mondays? Like every other day. Your life is a painting you work on every day. In the end, it is your choice whether you create a masterpiece or a “paint by number”. I tend to go surrealist, but that’s my secret.
