A Community That Plants Together, Grows Together!

Morning everyone!! A couple of weeks ago, myself, Team Jilly and Nacho popped by the Mamas for Mamas farm … yes, they have a FARM!! How cool is that?! It was a pretty special day as it was for TELUS Days of Giving!! If you haven’t heard of TELUS Days of Giving before, it’s when team members from TELUS volunteer for 2 whole months (across Canada!) to fulfill their giving philosophy, “We Give Where We Live”. TELUS believes that together with volunteers like you and me, we can make a powerful, positive difference in our local communities and help make an impact for those who need it the most.  And this year, one of the many activities they chose to volunteer at was the MAMAS FOR MAMAS FARM!! Eeeppp!!

It was so cool to check out the farm and witness a sea of volunteers rocking their purple and white TELUS shirts along with the Mamas for Mamas team getting down and dirty planting, watering, weeding and laying down the irrigation (which Telus ALSO donated!!), all while SMILING and having fun!!

When we had our first big meeting of the year we had decided that spending more time on charity initiatives and volunteering was going to be one of our big goals for 2018 and every year going forward … I personally think that there is such a huge benefit giving back to your community. Not only does it make you feel good from the inside out, and does wonders for team morale, but it also helps build such a powerful, strong, community. I want to raise Leo in a community that I am proud of,  and one that he can be proud to grow up in and I think that it’s times like these when everyone pulls together that those feelings really come through.

It’s for these reasons that we love working with TELUS because they are so focused on giving back and have such fantastic charity initiatives that I can really get on board with!

I was totally blown away by everyone and how they came together for such an amazing cause!! Mamas for Mamas started this farm to grow fresh produce to give to families in need, they planted corn, squash, cantaloupe, strawberries, etc. And the team at Bylands Nurseries generously donated flowers for them to plant as well so when Mamas in need come to pick up their veg and fruit, they can also pick themselves a fresh bouquet of flowers. Cue the tears!!!!

Now, not only did the team at TELUS volunteer for the entire day but they also donated a big fat cheque to the Mamas for Mamas team in the amount of $12,500 and I’m sure you can well imagine how the Mamas team reacted when they saw this … well, I can actually show you how they reacted below … LOL!!

It was such an amazing day and it really warms the heart to see SO MANY people come together to do amazing things for our little community here in the Okanagan. I can’t even begin to thank all of the volunteers, the team at TELUS, and of course, the Mamas for Mamas team for everything they do!
