Lighting is one of the most important aspects of your home, and one of the easiest ways to transform your space and decor. Choosing between cool lighting, warm lighting, incandescent lighting, LED lighting (the list goes on). You don’t want to be the person that buys one of each just to figure out which kind is your favourite. Or worse, leave a store never knowing what is best for your home. I hate investing in something I’m not sure of. A simple and easy fix to A LOT of design questions is normally lighting. Follow my tips in this blog and see what I use to make your life a whole lot easier (and your space a whole lot nicer)!!!
I recently switched to LED lighting wherever possible, which has not only helped enhance my space but it has also helped my wallet and more importantly, is better for the environment. YES, LED lighting has the biggest up-front cost, but it saves you money in the long run while also saving the environment.
The Halogen Flood lights I use in all of my pot lights are a great way to highlight the room. I recommend pot lights in every room as they are a great way to display certain areas and spotlight certain things. In my living room for example, I have used lighting to put focal points on the fireplace, artwork and decor.
In all of my table and floor lamps I use SYLVANIA ULTRA LED lights to make sure that they give off “cool” lighting to enhance my decor. Part of the reason I switched to ULTRA LED over regular LED is because of the dimmable feature. I always like having the option to dim the lights and it’s even more beneficial when they’re LED. They also use up to 85% less energy, and since I started using them I have definitely noticed a difference on my bills.
My vintage chandeliers take Halogen Decor lights. They add that extra bit of sparkle to my light fixture but not too much to over power the room. They are perfect for mood lighting but are also capable of lighting up the entire room if necessary. I like adding in unique touches and a vintage feel to add texture and character to a space.
Some of the SYLVANIA LED lights that I recently purchased are connected to a mobile app called ‘LIGHTIFY‘. This app allows you to play around with several white tones and millions of different colours. This is ideal for me as I’m always playing around with different shades of white and cool vs. warm. You can adjust the lighting in each room throughout your home simply and easily through your smartphone.

Where did you get your actual side tables in your livingroom? I’ve looked through all your posts in hopes it would be there. I’ve hunted for these tables but can not find them. The ones you have listed are similar but not exact. The legs don’t criss cross like the ones you’ve attached from anthropologie.

Hi Jillian, are you still recommending the same light bulbs? The links to the Sylvannia bulbs doesn’t work. What colour led bulbs do you recommend for for lamps both floor, table and ceiling? Also, for bathroom, what colour bulbs? Thanks!!
Hi,
I’d love to know this information too! Currently building a house and I am unsure of cool vs soft lights in which room. The more specific the better! Thank you so much.
Question!
What type of can lights do you recommend as they are tons of different kinds. Also! The bulb links did not work. Do you still feel the same way about the bulbs.
Thanks so much your amazing!
Hi Jillian!
Would you mind referencing the light “color” (bright white, soft white, daylight, etc.) that you recommend overall? I see that you mention a cool light! Very curious, thanks!! ?
@jillian.harris
I am wondering if you could possibly tell me where you purchased the mirror over top of your couch. I can’t seem to find that out anywhere. Many thanks!
