Little Leader’s Series: Olivia Matheson

Hi Everyone!! As most of you know I started up the “Little Leaders” series last year to shed some light on the little shining stars in our communities and so far it’s been amazing to see the positive response come in from everyone in support of these uplifting blogs and the number of emails that we’ve received sharing stories of Little Leaders in YOUR communities!! Our goal for 2018 (along with many others!) is to keep sharing these incredible stories coming because I am SO proud of all the kids out there who are doing SO much good and I believe they deserve to be recognized!! I want them to know THAT WE ARE SEEING WHAT THEY ARE DOING and we LOVE THEM! Kudos to the moms, dads and support system these kids have in order to live with such compassion and empathy! The point of this monthly feature is to spotlight these special little leaders and help them with their efforts and hope to encourage other kids, youth, and families to follow suit!

So without further adieu, our second “LITTLE LEADER” for the month of November is … Olivia Matheson!!

We learned about Olivia from her family friend, Caitlyn. Caitlyn was eager to share Olivia’s story with us and we are so thrilled she did, plus, the timing of Olivia’s story couldn’t be better as we all prepare for Remembrance Day.

I’ll let Caitlyn share Olivia’s story in her own words, with you below!

Jillian Harris Little Leader Olivia Matheson

I want to introduce you to Olivia Matheson. She is my friend’s daughter and one of the most incredible children I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.

Olivia has a truly compassionate heart. Her empathy for others, paired with a desire to better her community are shown in nearly every activity she chooses to participate in.

In the Fall of last year, during the Royal Canadian Legion’s Poppy Campaign, she handcrafted  these adorable poppies. She asked for a donation of “pay what you can” in hopes of raising funds to contribute to her local legion. The poppies were so well received, she couldn’t keep up with demand! In total, in just a couple of weeks, Olivia collected $324. The legion was so touched, they honoured Olivia at a ceremony after asking the community for help to track her down.

As I said, giving is at the heart of everything this little girl does. She recently had an Olympic themed birthday party with a goal of raising $100 for our local children’s hospital, which she met.

Olivia is a wonderful little girl and certainly deserves recognition for all that she does!

Thank you so much for sharing Olivia’s story with us Caitlyn, she certainly has a heart of gold. In honor of Olivia and everything she has accomplished (and continues to do!), and in support of our Remembrance Day and everyone who fought and continues to fight for our country, we have made a donation of $250 to the Poppy Fund in honour of Olivia.

If you would also like to show your support, please feel free to donate here with a note that it is in honour of Olivia Matheson.

WAY TO GO OLIVIA!

XOXO

Jilly

  1. And as a latest update, she just presented the Legion with this year’s donations from her incredibly successful poppy crafting – over $1000!! She is so humble and giving. I don’t even think she realizes how amazing she is!
