I don’t know about you … but I absolutely LOVED last night’s episode and transformation of Love It Or List It Vancouver. Paul, like many others, loves heritage homes and the fine craftsmanship and details that come with them. But his wife Debora was sick of living in a museum that was slowly but surely falling apart. The outside of their home was AMAZING and I’m sure when they first moved the inside was nothing short of the same. But as you know, with character homes also comes a long list of updates and renovations that you don’t think of until you start tearing the place apart.
Ultimately to get them to love it again I needed to modernise their already existing home. I needed to update all of the furnishings and create a better layout for the space. They like to entertain so storage and function were near the top of my list. I bumped into a few major set backs with the roof which didn’t allow me to finish some crucial items on their list. I think the solarium really would have been the deciding factor for them.
I still can’t believe they decided to list it in the end but Todd did a great job at finding them exactly what they were looking for. He really lucked out with such a gorgeous character home in the SAME neighbourhood!!! I’ll give it to you this time Todd …
I fell in LOVE with this backsplash from World Mosaic Tile. It added the perfect amount of modern touch to their kitchen while keeping the overall feeling classic and “heritage”.
And can we talk about all of the gorgeous new hardware in the kitchen from Schaub and Company?? This accordion appliance garage was perfect to save space and get the appliances tucked away and out of site making the space clutter free.
This herringbone tile floor from Olympia Tile + Stone was one of my favourite features of the entire renovation. I loved the texture that it added to the space while keeping everything vintage to match the original bathtub.
A big thank you as always to Janis Nicolay for the gorgeous photos!!

Could you do a post on picking hardware, counters, backsplashes, cabinetry colors, and light fixtures etc and tips for making it look cohesive without being too matchy matchy? Currently planning out the kitchen (all white with a cobalt blue island) for our new home, being built this spring. Would love some advice!
Some stunning details
The Oceanside Glasstile kitchen backsplash is Be-YOU-tiful!!!!
I’m absolutely in love with the second bath with the herringbone tile floor. Our new home is old and needs some renovations! Where is the gorgeous lighting, and bathroom vanity from?
I love, love, love the kitchen backsplash! Was it a custom blend or one of the many blends that Oceanside glass tiles offers?
