Transforming The Jilly Box Headquarters

If you know me, you know that organization is something I am VERY passionate about, and I’ve worked with Megan from Go Simplified numerous times over the years to declutter our home. When The Jilly Box team started feeling like the office needed better organizational systems… I knew exactly who to call! So, we asked Megan and her team to come in and help transform The Jilly Box Headquarters.

If you’re not familiar with Go Simplified, they’re a Calgary-based company that helps people declutter their homes and create organizational systems for ease of mind. Not to mention, they were also a coupon supplier in the Fall 2024 Jilly Box!!

The results of this project were of course amazing, so I’ll pass it off to Megan to let you know how her and her team made it happen!

Jillian Harris and Megan Golightly from Go Simplified.

Hello! I’m Megan, the founder of Go Simplified and I’m doing a takeover on Jillian’s blog today!

In February, I had the unique opportunity to take on a big project at The Jilly Box Headquarters—the lively workspace where Jillian Harris’s beloved subscription box is brought to life. With their team expanding and their needs evolving, the goal was simple yet momentous: to transform their workspace from not having a lot of storage and feeling cluttered into calm and organized, so they could work efficiently, peacefully, and joyfully.

I want to share the steps we took—because these strategies aren’t just for corporate workspaces; they’re for every single one of us who has ever looked at a cluttered room in our home and felt that familiar sense of being overwhelmed. You can apply these ideas in any space, big or small—my hope is that they will bring a little more peace and simplicity into your life!

Step 1: Start Fresh—Clear the Space and Your Mind

The first thing the Simplified team did was tackle a problematic storage area next to the bathroom. It was filled with overflow items that not only made the bathroom feel cramped but also created a sense of chaos that trickled into the rest of the space. We started with a complete reset, pulling everything out so we could see exactly what we were dealing with.

Tip for Home: Start by taking everything out of the space you want to declutter, even if it’s just a drawer or a single shelf. Seeing everything spread out will help you realize just how much you have. It gives you a clean slate—both visually and mentally. It will probably feel daunting at first, but there’s something empowering about looking at an empty space, knowing you get to decide exactly what comes back in.

Ask Yourself These Three Key Questions:

1. Do I use this item frequently?

2. Does it truly need to be in this specific space?

3. Would I miss it if it were gone?

By asking these questions, you’re already making mindful decisions about what deserves a place in your life. It’s not about what you’re getting rid of; it’s about what you’re choosing to keep.

Step 2: Make Your Most Important Items Accessible

Once we had removed everything, we turned our focus to making items easy to reach. In The Jilly Box bathroom area, frequently used items were placed on the most accessible shelves, while items that were rarely needed were stored up high. We labeled bins for each category, so the team could find what they needed in a snap. By organizing in a way that makes everyday items easier to grab, we set the team up to have smoother, stress-free work days.

Tip for Home: In your own spaces, think about what you use most and keep those items close at hand. For instance, in your pantry, place snacks, cereals, and coffee supplies where you can see and reach them without digging around. It will make your mornings, evenings – your whole routine, much easier.

Step 3: Customize Solutions to Fit Your Space

Go Simplified working at The Jilly Box office.

The main storage area at The Jilly Box office had a large shelving unit with deep shelves. While the shelves offered plenty of space, items would often get lost at the back, which made it hard to access what was needed. Our team added pull-out drawers to make it easy to access even the items stored farthest back.

Tip for Home: If you have a deep pantry or closet, consider installing pull-out drawers or baskets. By having the option to slide items out toward you, you’re maximizing the depth of your storage without sacrificing accessibility. Remember, organization is not just about fitting things in—it’s about finding them when you need them! This simple upgrade can work wonders in closets, kitchen cabinets, or bathrooms.

Step 4: Invest in Long-Term Solutions

At The Jilly Box office, we weren’t just looking for quick fixes; we wanted to create a space that would work for the team over the long haul. That meant choosing versatile solutions like adjustable shelves and modular bins that could be rearranged as their needs changed.

Tip for Home: Think about your own needs and lifestyle when choosing storage solutions. If you know your needs will change, invest in versatile options like stackable bins, adjustable shelving, or even wall-mounted pegboards that allow you to customize your space. These solutions don’t just serve you in the short term—they grow with you.

Think of it as creating a space that supports you, not one that demands more of you.

Step 5: Simplify Your Kitchen with Zones

In The Jilly Box kitchen, we focused on grouping similar items together. By creating zones for snacks, beverages, and essentials, the team could see at a glance what needed restocking. We used labeled bins to keep everything organized, so items were easy to find and return to their designated spot.

Tip for Home: In your kitchen, group items by their function. Set up a coffee zone with mugs, coffee beans, filters, and sweeteners, or create a snack station for easy access during busy days. You can even dedicate a shelf or drawer for your kids’ school snacks or lunch supplies. By creating these small zones, you make your kitchen more functional, and a lot more enjoyable to use.

Step 6: Embrace Seasonal Storage

The upstairs storage area at The Jilly Box was filled with props and seasonal items. We sorted everything by season. This way, the team could focus on upcoming projects without being overwhelmed by items they wouldn’t need for months. This also created a smoother workflow, making it easier to rotate items in and out as needed.

Tip for Home: If you struggle with seasonal storage, dedicate bins for each season and label them clearly. Store these bins in less accessible areas, like the top shelf of a closet or under a bed. When the new season rolls around, it’s as easy as pulling out one bin and tucking away another. No more digging through piles of decorations and winter clothes in the heat of July!

A Few Final Thoughts

Organizing is more than just arranging your stuff; it’s about creating spaces that feel peaceful, welcoming, and that support your lifestyle. Every time I work with clients like The Jilly Box team, I’m reminded of how transformative organization can be—not just for our physical spaces but for our mental and emotional well-being. If you’re ready to create this sense of calm and order in your home, I recommend checking out my new home and pantry video course or my how-to guides and Amazon storefronts (CA/US) that have all the tools and tips you need to bring these strategies into your own space. Start small, stay mindful, and remember that progress doesn’t mean perfect. Every single item you let go of, every shelf you organize, and every bin you label brings you one step closer to a home you actually love.

THANK YOU Megan and team for organizing The Jilly Box office, the team is LOVING the space!!
