In celebration of Canada Day I would like to take the time to share a few of my FAVOURITE Canadian things and answer a few questions for you …
1. Where are your favourite places to visit in Canada?
I LOVE Tofino, if you go there you have to stay at The Wickaninnish Inn or the Pacific Sands Beach Resort! I also always love going back to my hometown, Peace River!! Oh, and The Emerald Lake Lodge in the Rockies!!
2. Have you ever slept in an igloo?
Not overnight but when I was younger I used to make igloos in our backyard and one day I convinced my parents let me sleep in my igloo with my family dog, Sweets, and they agreed! So, we attempted but it got too cold in the night so I packed up stuff up and headed inside. LOL!
3. What is your favourite Canadian-ism?
One of my favourite quotes comes from Canadian hockey legend, Wayne Gretzky, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”.
4. Where is the best place to try a poutine?
I loooove poutine but ever since going plant-based I find it harder to find a really good vegan poutine but The Naked Cafe here in Kelowna makes a mean vegan poutine!
5. Do you have a Canadian guilty pleasure?
Ketchup chips.
6. Do you say, EH?
F*ckin’ rights, EH!
7. What’s your go-to Canadian drink?
I cannot WAIT to have a Caesar once this little girl is born!!!
8. Have you ever seen a beaver in real life?
I have!! It was when I was 16 years old … I was canoodling in the woods with my first boyfriend and a couple of big beavers appeared out of nowhere and we freaked out and took off!! It was a romantic buzz-kill.
9. What are some of your favourite Canadian brands?
I have so many favourite Canadian brands but a few off the top of my head are Aritzia, The Cross Decor & Design … and Smash & Tess … paired with a Chelsea King scrunchie, of course!!
10. Which Canadian musicians do you love to listen to?
I love love love The Tragically Hip, Aaron Pritchett … Jan Arden … there’s so many!!
11. How do you celebrate Canada Day?
Each year my girlfriends come to the Okanagan and we spend Canada Day together, this year will mark our sixth year doing this! You can either find us out on the lake in the boat with Justin or hanging out by our pool drinking caesars … which I won’t be doing this year! LOL!
12. Where is your favourite place to skinny dip?
I would have to say my pool … although … I HAVE gone skinny dipping in Okanagan Lake and it’s pretty awesome. Actually, now that I think about it, I’ve skinny dipped lots of places in Canada!
13. Why are you excited to raise Leo & your Baby Girl in Canada?
Canada is an awesome place! I mean, while I know not all Canadian’s share the same opinion when it comes to politics, overall we are a fairly liberal and accepting Country. I feel like we are doing things right when it comes to treating people with kindness and having big hearts and that’s how I want to raise my kids. We have a lot to be grateful for!
What are some of YOUR favourite things about Canada?? Share them below in the comments section!!
HAPPY CANADA DAY EVERYONE!
xo
Jilly
When you are in new Westminster go to the spud shack for vegan poutine! Amazing!!!!
YUM!!!! Thank you for letting me know! I’m going to have to try that!!! XO
The four distinct seasons.
Happy Canada day Jillian! To you and your beautiful family! God bless
Love this and thanks for sharing. One of my favourite aspects of Canada is the beautiful natural wonder the country has to offer. I can’t wait to take my kids around and show the different parts of it. There is so much we have to be grateful for!!
Accepting of different cultures and values and inclusiveness is also a big part of what I love about Canada.
Proud to be a Canadian????
Love your answers – especially #3 and #13 – and enthusiastic life outlooks in general! Happy Canada Day to you and your family, and may I suggest a good spicy Virgin Caesar as a temporary replacement ?
I’m from Manitoba and this winter, even if you weren’t a hockey fan, you just couldn’t help but be proud of the Jets!!
Jill!
If you love Tofino, you would love Haida Gwaii up here in North BC! A “short” ferry ride or sea plane ride from Prince Rupert! You would love it !!
Jillian I’ve been following you for a while now, and your Insta stories always make me smile. No matter what I’m going through, you always get atleast a smile if not a full out laugh. I also want to thank you for introducing me to some of your vegan cheeses. I have managed to find a couple in the Ottawa area and love them.
Now for your actual question….some of my fave things about Canada.
– friendly people
– diversity and various cultures
– freedom
– opportunity (for the most part – mind you I’ve been teaching for 8.5 years and still not permanent….lol)
– so much to see, do and explore
– the many places still on my bucket list around the country (including the west coast, territories, Newfoundland, etc)
I could go on, but I’ll stop here.
Happy Canada Day
Olga ????????????????
I love living in Canada. We have the freedom to do so many things that we wish. We are given the rights to go to school and get a good education, work at the jobs we want and be able to move up in the company and be able to live anywhere in this beautiful country. I think Canada is one of the best countries in the world. ❤❤❤
Absolutely luv you ? and your show! Love it or list it and your reality show. ❤️ I hope they both continue! You are a fabulous person ?and actress! I luv Canada ?? so much I share its birthday! ?
The brand Smythe! And hockey of course. And fishing northern pike!
I love how beautiful our country is! I just spent the weekend camping on Lake Superior and the landscape is so stunning!
Definitely the people <3
Happy Canada Day eh!
LOve learning a bit more! Wonderful photos as always!
Canada is an exceptionally beautiful country, but nothing can compare to the West Coast. Just ride the ferry from Tswassen to Schwartz Bay. Stay out on the deck. Sunny, misty, it doesn’t matter.
Heaven on earth. The Okanagan is next. After that, other opinions are fine. ?
Oh my gosh! I LOVE Tofino as well! My husband is from Chicago, and before we met, he saw a show on tv and Vancouver Island was featured along w The Wickaninnish Inn…He told himself that when he met the right one, he was going to propose at The Wick…and he did! It was just amazing. So many places yet for me to uncover in Canada, but holy cow was that ever a good start!!!
My girlfriend Laura thinks you are the most amazing and inspiring person ever…she would kill me if she knew I was doing this…it would be amazing if you could reach out to her and say hello…I can give you her email if you have time to say hello. Thank you
Hi Rob!! Can you send an email to [email protected] about this?? XOXO
Hey Jillian!!! Where did you get that beautiful big soft chunky knit blanket listed in number 9? Thanks!
I found it on Etsy!! XOXO
SO many wonderful things about Canada! I apparently live in the armpit of Canada (New Brunswick) haha! Still beautiful <3
Hi Jillian,
Happy I found you & your page! I was born in Kelowna and have lived in CA for 25 + years. Me, my husband & two teenage boys will be vacationing in Kelowna the first week of August this year. Can you provide a list of must see, must do and places to eat. We will be staying at The Cove and super excited to visit. Love your style 🙂
That’s a beautiful spot to stay!! I would suggest hitting up the beaches for sure and if you love wine, I would suggest making a trip to Quail’s Gate and the Hatch wineries! XO
Hi Jillian!!
I get your insta stories and adore them. Last week I had a dream you posted about how a plant based diet made your teeth whiter!!
Not kidding. I wonder if this is true!!!?
Look forward to more plant based inspo!
This is why I love Canada – the Canadian Tuxedo, i match my J Brand jeans to Nanette Lepore denim shirt. It totally works.
Riversol skincare. Natural Factors. Sid’s Vodka, Arcade Fire, Tragically Hip,
Joie Winery (okay the Naramata Bench)
And yes the beloved Wick!
Canada home of the craft…..(fill in the blanks) Small & medium size companies running this economy. The scenery and its people are pretty top shelf too.
Your Rocky Mountains are SO much better than our!
I know I’m behind on the times and just reading this now buuuuut I just have to say that caesars are one of my favouritedrinks as well and when I was pregnant I drank virgin ones and they were still amazing!! They made it feel as though I was drinking with my friends when I couldn’t (does that make me sound like an alcoholic?). If you happen to ever get pregnant with another adorable babe then give it a try if you haven’t yet! They taste exactly the same!!
The natural beauty. The people. There are NO others like Canadians!
We are a bunch of friendly, caring, kind dorks, who are able to laugh at ourselves. we have a great sense of humour!
I work at a retirement resident in Calgary and we partnered with Wish of a Lifetime to grant one of my resident’s wishes. She will be going to the Wickaninnish Inn with her daughter in May, such a beautiful place!
Hi Jillian…I live in Washington State and my husband and I frequently eat at a Thai restaurant called The Emerald of Siam; they have live music throughout the week and we were lucky enough to be eating there one night and there was this SUPER COOL bluegrass band from Canada performing…the Slocan Ramblers; have you heard of them? If not, you should check them out! They are AMAZING!
