Creamy Banana Coconut Latte

It is OFFICIALLY time!! I have been talking about the delicious, creamy, indulgent, Banana Coconut Latte’s from Giovane’s for so long now and I’m so excited to finally share the recipe with you!! Every time I stay in Vancouver at the Fairmont Pacific Rim I make SURE I grab my morning latte from Giovane’s before heading out to set because it’s THAT GOOD!!!

If you’re in the Vancouver area, do yourself a favour and run (don’t walk!) to Giovane’s and treat yourself to one of these slices of heaven now!! Or, if you have all of the ingredients at home, try the recipe below!!! That’s right, the team at Giovane’s helped us with this recipe and we cannot WAIT for you to try it!

This latte is the perfect creamy treat with sweet notes of coconut and the slightest hint of banana but if you’re craving a more intense bananacoconut flavour, increase puree to 6 or more tablespoons when making your latte!! We found that the Soy milk banana lattes were the creamiest and tasted the best … so if you’re a soy milk fan, we suggest using So Nice soy milk for best results. Also, make sure to use strong espresso … or if you’re in a pinch, use strong leftover coffee!

Pro Tip: Leave out the espresso for a bananacoconut steamer that’s perfect for kids or as a caffeine-free treat!

Ingredients

  • 1 can 1 full-fat high-quality coconut milk (400ml)

  • 1 medium 1 ripe banana

  • 2 1/2 tbsp 2 1/2 white sugar

  • 1 cup 1 soy milk or non-dairy milk of choice

  • 1 shot espresso

Directions

  • Banana Coconut Puree
  • In a high-speed blender, add whole can of coconut milk, banana and sugar. Blend on high for 3 minutes or until completely smooth and creamy. Ensure the fat from the coconut milk hasn’t separated from the rest of the mixture. Transfer to airtight jar or container and refrigerate until ready to use (prepare in advance up to 3 days).
  • Frother / Steamer Method
  • If you have an electric frother or steamer, add 5 tablespoons of banana-coconut puree to the carafe. Add soy milk, and heat until creamy and smooth. In a small mug, add shot of espresso. Using a spoon, carefully pour the steamed milk in, reserving the foam until the very end. ENJOY!
  • Stovetop Method
  • Heat a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Add 5 tablespoons of banana-coconut puree Add soy milk and whisk to combine. Heat over medium-low heat until warmed through, and then transfer to a high-speed blender and blend on high for 3-4 minutes until frothy. In a small mug, add shot of espresso. Using a spoon, carefully pour the steamed milk in, reserving the foam until the very end. ENJOY!

  1. Thank you Jillian, I cannot wait to try this. It sounds heavenly. My question is how much of the banana mixture do you put in comparison to the milk alternative?
    Have a great day,
    Marise

  2. Hi team Jilly! Do you think you could freeze the mixture pre-portioned to pop out and use since you’re heating it up anyway? So you get more time out of the mixture rather than having to use it all in a couple of days.

  3. I wonder if banana extract would be decent for us low carb eaters? If anyone tries it, please report back.

  4. Oh my goodness! Thank you so much for posting this! I’ve been anxiously awaiting this post and can’t wait to try it!

  5. This tastes even better with almond milk ???
Also, I’ve never added the sugar… I found the banana sweetened the drink plenty, so it’s even healthier ??‍♀️?

  6. Oh. My. Lanta. I made this the moment you posted it. Thank you for stepping up my mat leave latte game. It is un-flippin-believable. And sooooo creamy!! I decreased the sugar a bit just for personal taste. Oh man. Thank you, Jillian. Or Fairmont. ??

  7. Omg. I literally just made this & it’s SOOO good! I was lucky enough to have all the ingredients on hand. Next time I will try using a mocha flavored espresso pod (Nespresso) to give it an extra little kick. Thanks for sharing!

  8. Been waiting for this since I’ve seen you drink it at the fairmont pacific! I’ve even had it there, but I feel like this is even better. How is that possible?! Just made it, so easy and so deliscious! Will be my go to every morning now. ADDICTED! Thanks ladies!

  9. Yessssssss! Can’t wait to make it this weekend. I’ve been watching eagerly. Thanks for creating. Love y’all.

  10. Did you happen to try it with maple syrup as the sugar? Just curious if that would work! Can’t wait to make this!! 🙂

  11. OMG. I just made this latte and you are right! It is fantastic! I would never have thought that banana would taste good in a coffee, but this takes it over the top! Thanks for sharing Jillian!!!!!

  12. I’ve never had it from Giovanes but it turned out phenomenal! I only have a ninja bullet so I ended up whisking for a few minutes in the saucepan, and I was surprised by how great it turned out!
Thanks so much for sharing Jillian, this is a gem.

  13. This is incredible! I made two this morning, one just wasn’t enough (totally made getting to work late worth it!). I also substituted regular sugar for cane sugar, I might try with maple syrup next time! This is so tasty, thanks again!

  14. So so so good! I’ll be making another one this afternoon. Thank you for stepping up my latte game!

  15. The Latte looks so yummy. I’m not a coffee drinker. Do you think this could be turned into a tea latte?
Love the cup you served it in.

  16. Delish!, I have no idea if it tastes like the one at the Fairmont, but it does taste amazing! A perfect Friday afternoon treat!

  17. My mom and I made this recipe this morning – we split the mixture in half. I drank two of these this morning and made a second carafe for the rest of the weekend. I’m hooked!

  18. I’ve been following your banana latte journey on Instagram, and was a little skeptical about the final result. Thought I would give it a try, because I’ll try anything once :p and I really like it!

  19. Tested and approved! I use a Bodum electric frother and used non dairy coconut drink instead of another milk (not to be confused with the canned coconut milk). Both husband and I love it.

  20. But what to do when the milk does separate? My blended mixture is smooth, but after heating in my frothed it seems to have separated! Still tastes delicious but not pretty to look at! Help!

  21. Made this this afternoon and it was delightful, thank you for sharing!

A few notes about the recipe:
    – it would be helpful if you listed how many lattes the recipe makes, like is 1 cup of milk for 1 latte?
    – also, an approximation of how many lattes you’ll get out of the purée would be helpful, too!

  22. What is your favorite coconut milk to use for the purée? I’m having a hard time getting the right flavor… Am really hoping to get this recipe perfect as I LOVE LOVE coconut banana lattes!!!!

  23. I tried it, and I had too much banana in it.
It was delicious. I used almond milk, as I don’t like soy.

  24. Made this yummy latte this am. Being on Mat leave I’m always looking for a nice treat and this latte is perfect!! Thank you for sharing

  25. I made it with dates instead of sugar and it’s still delicious! I will probably try the original recipe at some point too. Have been dying to try this since you first talked about it on Instagram, thank you for sharing the recipe!

  26. Thanks so much Jill for adding this to your site! I made it this weekend and WOW! It was absolutely delish 🙂

    Thanks again!

  27. This was delicious! I added a few tablespoons more of the banana coconut purée to make it a little sweeter, but I think that was only because I didn’t measure exactly one cup of the non dairy milk to the pot on the stove. I just kind of poured what looked would fill my cup, so may have added too much milk and needed more purée to balance it out. It turned out SO GOOD regardless. Tomorrow I’m trying it out with exact measurements for the milk and am sooo looking forward to my new treat! Well done ladies!

  28. What if the fat from the coconut milk has separated once i put it in the fridge? Should I just throw the whole thing out and start over? How can I prevent it from happening again? Other than the texture, it tastes great!

  29. This is absolutely delicious, thank you for re-creating this drink and sharing. The only thing for me is the amount of soy milk was too much for one drink, it would be helpful if there was a yeild for how many lattes 1 cup of soy milk would make. Now I know for next time though! Will be enjoying this treat again and again.

  30. Okay I finally made this and it did not disappoint!!! Just the perfect amount of sweetness and definitely enough caffeine to get my day with my 9 month old off to a good start! Thank you for sharing this!!!

  31. I finally made it! And it was SO delicious! I used almond milk with the coconut banana blend.

  32. So delicious!! I used unsweetened vanilla oat milk (SoFresh) and it was perfect. I tried stevia this morning instead of sugar and it was good too. So that I can enjoy it more often, I would rather not have the sugar. Thanks for sharing Jillian! ?

  33. My co-worker and I tried this at Giovane’s after reading all the rave reviews and we were both disappointed. Couldn’t taste any banana or coconut. Totally over-rated! It’s NOT THAT GOOD!

  34. Just turned this into a frappe! Sooo Delicious! If anyone wants to try it cold, I just left about a quarter of the cream in the blender, added 2 shots(bc I like strong coffee) and about 1/4c milk, 1c ice. My new summer drink!❤️?

  35. So so good! I’ll likely reduce/omit the sugar depending on banana ripeness next time. Threw the leftovers in an ice cube tray for an increased shelf life. Can’t wait to have it again!

  36. I made this today as a treat and I loved it!
I added in some extra frozen banana and that worked. Thumbs up.

  37. I’ve been having issues with the coffee curtling when I put the banana coconut soy mixture in, what am I doing wrong?

  38. I just tried this today and it’s incredible! I used coconut sugar instead of white sugar and love the results! Thanks for sharing – this is my new go to coffee.

  39. Hi Jillian, this is an amazing recipe. I am pregnant and dont like hot drinks, I made this latte as an iced drink thoroughly enjoyed it.

  40. Omg, just made this and had to have a cup (9pm). Made with 2% milk and still creamy. Thanks for posting this recipe!!

  41. The recipe is true to Giovanni’s mine came out perfect! Amazing, thanks for sharing Jillian!

D Banks from Grande Prairie, AB

  42. I’d never heard of banana and coffee together before, but I just tried this and wow! This has replaced my morning coffee now, the natural sweetness of the banana makes it so delicious!

  43. I had to make this after reading all the comments and it didn’t disappoint!! Only changes I made was maple sugar instead of white and almond milk instead of soy. Thanks for the recipe 🙂

  44. I just took my first sip and WOAH! This latte is delicious! It’s a beautiful and balanced marriage of my two favourite flavours. Thank you for sharing this recipe. I can’t wait to make it for my friends and family.

  45. 12110 delicious. I have a jug of soy I’ll open for this over the long weekend but in the meantime it’s pretty tasty with almond milk! Thanks for the recipe 🙂

  46. Amazing!! I used 1 tbsp of maple syrup instead and used regular milk. It is soooooo creamy and delicious
