Belinda & Sam had an absolutely gorgeous 100 year old character home in major need for renovations. It was in a great neighbourhood for their growing family which they of course didn’t want to stray too far from. Their two boys played lots of hockey so making them a mud room for all of their gear was closet to the top of my list. Along with opening up the main floor to accommodate the growth of the family. The character home had so many small details that I wanted to capitalize on to make them fall in love with what they originally saw.
I thought I was going down after not being able to redo the Master Bath and Ensuite because of the must have addition of a new sprinkler system. Those are both important sections of a renovation because the home owner uses and sees it on a daily basis. I was worried that no bathrooms at all would be the deciding factor for them. BUT… we ended up completely opening up the space and gave it an old warehouse feel. It transformed the entire floor to be bright, light and airy. They of course ended up falling in love with it all over again!!!
These gorgeous cabinets from Merit Kitchens added in a contemporary feel that wasn’t too over powering for the space. I wanted to keep everything rustic to match the original style of the character home. The subtle grey that we chose helped add the bright and open feeling throughout.
We updated their already gorgeous fireplace area by adding in a Valor insert and sprucing up the tile work and paint job. It was a great addition to the living room that I added in upstairs instead of downstairs.
I gave the boys a completely updated mudroom for them to store their hockey gear. We created this amazing storage unit with Stor-X to give them tons of storage with a fan inside to air out the smell.
A big thank you as always to Janis Nicolay for the gorgeous photos!!

I would love to know the paint color on the walls in addition to the kitchen cabinets — gray and white ones! Thanks!! XO
Head to the resource guide in the link above!!!! It will tell you all of those itty bitty details!
The link unfortunately doesn’t work. I too am interested in the name of the subtle grey paint that was used on the walls. Help! Please and thanks!
Oh wow I hope they keep this! This may be my favorite design yet!!
Beautiful! How do I get you to come over the border to Ferndale and help me with my 105 year old farmhouse?! LOL!
The warehouse vibe is probably my favourite look, as of late 🙂 Great reno!
Love the custom couch….could you tell me where this was purchased. I tried clicking on the link above for resources but it just says page not found….Thank You
Hi Jillian. I love the striped rug and blue pillows in the family room. They weren’t listed in the resources. Can you help? Thanks!
You (and your team) did an amazing job. I wish my mud room looked this good when it had hockey gear in it!
Love the exposed brick wall in the kitchen!
Possibly my favourite of this season so far! Wonderful details and I may be stealing many of them. Question – does the show format ever change so you don’t have to “we are going to do everything but wait … now we have to take something away …” You and your team are too good not to know those things – tell your producers to give you some licence!!! Great job
I absolutely love this renovation. It is modern and yet cosy, I could easily spend the rest of my life there. 🙂 <3
