I am so excited for this season of Love It or List It Vancouver!!! Every Monday night new episodes will be airing at 10pm E/P on HGTV Canada!! Isn’t fall just the perfect time to snuggle up on the couch in front of your favourite TV show lol!?!?!?!
Onto last nights episode …. I absolutely loved David and Jane’s quaint character home that was so close to nature but still considered in the city. After the first walk through it looked pretty much perfect to me and I thought it would be a quick lipstick project … but that’s never the case with character homes. As always, they seem to come with quite a bit of baggage. As soon as Kenny’s team started demolishing the walls and ripping up the floors they found that it was contaminated with way more asbestos then we had budgeted for. It was pretty much as bas as it gets. That wasn’t where it stopped, the home was full of odds and ends that didn’t quite match up. It had weird layouts making it NOT functional for anyone let alone their growing family. But I was up for the challenge to make them fall in love with it again …
We created an open concept main floor by knocking down the wall in the living room with the fireplace on it. It helped give a sense of MORE square footage, which we weren’t really lacking, but it helps brighten the overall space up. We finished it off with a custom sofa, crown mouldings on the ceiling, and a fresh coat of paint throughout the home thanks Cloverdale Paint.
One of the most important things of a renovation big or SMALL is lighting. You can transform any space simply with a new light fixture or even a new light bulb!! You don’t need to SPLURGE on this … in fact, this is where I recommend saving!! I fell in love with all of the cool fixtures that Design Lighting supplied us with for David & Janes home. I love mixing dark fixtures and dark metals with contemporary styles to make the fixtures pop.
With David’s previous health issues I wanted to be able to supply their family with something close to the heart that was important to all of them. One of my favourite elements of this project was one that you can’t see and instead in the air that they could breathe. We installed an air filtration system from Campbell Care with an ample amount of ducting so that the air was as healthy as it could be for David (and the whole family).
Even though Todd did a GREAT job at finding them a space that was significantly larger with all of the features they were looking for … I still can’t believe they decided to list it!!!
A big thank you as always to Janis Nicolay for the gorgeous photos!!
