Vancouver Home Tour

Like I said before … when it rains it truly pours!!!! We have been decorating Leo’s Vancouver nursery since AUGUST and it finally came together just before Christmas. This just goes to show for all you busy mama’s out there that it is A-OKAY to take your time with your nursery … start off with the necessities and slowly build it into something that you love. Which is exactly what we did for Leo’s VANCOUVER nursery!!! If you haven’t caught on, we film Love It Or List It Vancouver IN Vancouver so travel between both Kelowna and Vancouver every week. Meaning, we had to create TWO nurseries!!! I just wanted to clear that up so that you aren’t confused before diving into our Vancouver home tour …

When Leo was born, as most of you know, I still wanted to keep everything VERY neutral. I wanted to use whites, creams, greys, and oatmeals as much as possible. But with THIS nursery … I decided I wanted to add COLOUR!!! Although it may not look like a tonne of colour to some of you, it’s A LOT of colour for me … and I must say … I LOVE IT!!!! I’ve started to notice how Leo reacts to colour and I definitely want to continue to incorporate it into our decor to keep stimulating his senses and helping with his development.

While we were at it and planning out Leo’s nursery, I decided that I wanted to update the ENTIRE Vancouver home at the same time so that it was up to date and “kid friendly”. I wanted it to feel like a designer lived there while making it bright, airy and beautiful. It ALSO had to be more “homey” feeling and comfortable yet still practical since I knew we would be spending a lot more time here.

This space is surprisingly quite small so we had to get creative with storage and organization systems so that everything was easy to find and easy to put away since I’m always on the fly. We brought in a TV stand into the living room in place of a demi round table for the extra storage space. This is where I tuck away the majority of Leo’s diapers, toys, formula, and other baby supplies.

We got rid of the large glass coffee table and brought in a tufted ottoman so that it’s more approachable for Leo with the soft corners and rounded edges. We tried to think of this for almost every piece of furniture.

We replaced the thick shag carpet with a thin pile wool fabric carpet from Caitlin Wilson. I like that it’s a natural fibre, making it easy to clean … and great for Leo’s messy growth stages!! I also decided to add COLOUR with the carpet so that it was easy to pull different pops of colour for the decor depending on the season. We also added graphic art with colours that are good for babies mental stimulation and to help pull together the rug and decor

The couch is oversized but we found the room was slightly too small to incorporate another large piece of furniture (like a love seat or chair) anyway so why not make this one piece the statement piece and make it large and comfy! It is also slip covered so we can clean it when it gets dirty (definitely something to look for if you have kids!!!) AND it doubles as a bed!

Last but not least, before Leo, we used a trunk as a side table, as much as I love the way that looked, it wasn’t practical. Since we are limited for space, adding in as MANY storage solutions as possible was key, which is why we decided to add in an end table with once again MORE storage!!!

As you can see, even though this space may not SEEM very kid friendly at first glance, it truly is!!! What I’ve learned throughout this transformation … a space can still be BEAUTIFUL and designed with kids at the top of mind. There are so many great options out there, and the ones I’ve picked for this space are a great place to start.

  2. Hi Jillian,
I commented on FB, but was wondering if you would do a blog post of what you thought your necessitites were in Leo’s nurseries?!

    1. My thoughts too! I was only able to get away with one of those bassinets till 3 months, by 4 months my boy was sitting up on his own, Eeekk!!! Everything does look beautiful and pleasant.

  3. Jill. I absolutely love everything!!! Leo’s nursery has the perfect pop of color!! It came out great! I can only imagine how difficult it was for you being a neutral color person! But I must say! It came out great!!! And your living space!! My word! It’s heaven! From the Ottoman, to the rug and that vase!!! I may have to buy that!! But seriously everything is genius! Smart designing mama!! Love it all!!

  4. I love your house style ! Leo’s nursery is so adorable, I’m in the process of changing my colour scheme and style in our house (expensive and will take time) but I LOVE the neutrals in the living room with the pop of colour and design in the rug! Fantastic job Jillian 🙂

    1. I don’t know where Jillian got it from but I bought one for my son Eli from one of the Canadian online toy stores. I believe it is made by Maple Landmark. I don’t remember which store I ordered it from as it was about 6 years ago but it looks identical. My son still has it displayed in his room 🙂

  5. Firstly, Leo is simply beautiful! Hopefully you’ve been able to enjoy all the precious first’s! I Love the way you pull things together, such a treat for the eyes. I’ve tried to adapt some of your design ideas for my new home…next week is moving day…

  6. Loooove that wallpaper in Leo’s nursery! It’s so precious!

I’m also a big fan of that mirror in the living room! We have it in our bedroom 🙂

  7. Love!! Where is the actual rug from your living room from? The one you linked from Wayfair is different. Love the pattern of the one in your space! Please let me know – I have been looking all over for this rug!!

    1. Love that rug! What size is yours? I can’t decide on the size and I think your space is similar to mine.

  8. I love it! I’m from Spain and I love “Love it or least it”. I follow you on Instagram and I think that Leo is the most beutiful baby that I have seen. You are so lucky and talented. I love all your design and Leo’s room is sooo beutiful and colourful 🙂

  9. We recently purchased condo in white rock, new to the area any suggestions as to contractors love what you have done

  10. Jill! All of the rooms in your home are stunning. Kudos! Now, from one Okanagan wine drinking girl to another – where are the champagne flutes from!?!? I MUST have them! 🙂

  11. Love the white with pops of color. That tufted ottoman I have saved as a possibility (I can’t believe it is priced that low) We start furniture shopping for our new home next month! I ordered something from wayfair this month after seeing you suggest it to test out how easy it is before ordering major purchases from them.

    1. I’d love to know this too. My toddler is train crazy and we are doing a understated train theme for his “big boy” room.

  12. Is it weird the thing I loved most were the champagne flutes? Are they from Wayfair as well? (Everything else is gorg too!)

  13. Would love a post about updates on feeding Leo – you’ve discussed breastfeeding previously and now you mention formula as well as solids!

  14. The rug you linked doesn’t look like the one you have?? I LOVE the one in your living space….please share!!

        1. It only took a few hours on the phone with Wayfair and trying to find it myself, to then return to this site and find it from another blog post! It is quite gorgeous indeed!

  15. Love the nursery! We are going to start building next year and I’m definietly looking for inspiration. I’m a fan of white too. It’s so clean and crisp. My fave piece is the rug! Everything looks so great.

  16. Your home is lovely!!! please help me decide a white paint colour!!!?!!!do you know the colour you have here? Or what you usually go for. Already ordering a few things- love @wayfair! ❤️

  17. More than “bonito” Jillian!!!!! I from Spain and never miss Love ir or List it Vancouver. Im very fan of you and let me tell you that you seen an authentic and beutifull person

  18. Love the nursery design! My baby and Leo are almost the same age so I love your design and style ideas! I, too, am a clean freak and lover of white. Any tips on keeping things clean with a dog in the house?

    1. Make sure you always wash EVERYTHING!!! Buy a couch with a slip cover … and sheets that you can bleach!!!

      1. I really love your white slipcover sofa! Could you tell me where you purchased it, the style name and fabric color too, if possible?

        1. I just figured out where you bought the sofa! Went back to the post and there it is! Thx! Really love it but it’s too big for my space. Looking for a loveseat size with a 34 seat, bench seat. Finding it hard to locate one without paying the high price of going custom. If you have any suggestions, that would be great! PS love your show Love it or List it and was sorry to hear it’s on a hiatus! I tuned to Jillian and Justin and loved it!

  19. Jillian your nursery is adorable, love the extra colour! I did the same with my daughter’s room, lots of white but for my son who’s coming in 4 weeks I’m trying to add more colour. I love the giraffe standing at the door picture, where is that from??

  20. Love it Jilly. And thanks for all the details about the various items. 2 things I’m still wondering about from Leo’s room are his braided rug and the “you are my sunshine” art. I sing that to my boys every night and love the colours in it!

    1. Hi @disqus_3AfHcCVsXs:disqus we actually had the sign handmade from a lady on Etsy!! Her shop name is AnniePatchwork XOXO

  22. What a stunning update! I’m loving the pops of color and how bright the space is!
A beautiful space for a beautiful family 🙂

  23. Love the white, light and bright theme to your place! It makes small spaces seem so much more open and spacious. My favourite item is definitely the white and black heart wallpaper in Leo’s room.

  24. Hi Jillian, I really enjoy your posts and general style! I was curious what brand and name of paint color you used in your living room, kitchen and bedroom. I’ve been trying to find a neutral with that grey/blue undertone and it looks so great in your space!

  25. Gorgeous updates! Jillian, dying to know where the black and white pillow on the bed in your room is from. Thanks!

  26. I would love to know where you ordered the white curtains in your living room from. It looks like you have both solid panels and sheers on the same curtain rod? Do you have any tips for hanging curtains? Your place looks dreamy!

  29. love your style very fresh. your a very talented lady. very good taste . leo is one lucky boy to have a mummy like you.

  30. As an avid Canadian reader who LOVES the striped curtains in Leo’s room, I was astonished to see that the curtains on the Canadian Wayfair website are DOUBLE!! the price of the exact same thing on the American website, and that there is no discount on the Canadian site…what about your poor Canadian customers?!

  31. I love the sofa. I think I’m going to order it! Not sure on the colour, just requested some swatches. I’m hooked on Bungalow Rose now. My husband doesn’t thank you lol.

  32. Jillian – can you tell me who the artist is of the pink/gold painting in your living room, above the little eiffel tower, it’s gorgeous xo

  33. Hi Jillian! Thank you so much for sharing your home with us! You are truly my design inspiration. Everything you touch is pure gold!! I would love to know the paint colour used in your kitchen/living room. I am in search of the perfect light grey paint and just can’t seem to find one. Much love from Saskatchewan.

  34. Hi Jillian, dying to know the paint colours! Have they been posted somewhere? I have this issue of “Style at Home” and they’re not there either! Thanks!

  35. Leo’s nursery is a dream! I love it. I’m having my 2nd child in November, baby boy #2!! When creating a space where do you start? I want to do something different for this nursery!
