5 Tips To Creating A Tropical Tablescape

If there is one thing I take pride in, it’s being the “hostess with the most-ess.” I absolutely LOVE hosting dinners, brunches or even casual get-togethers with my family and friends. With summer in full swing and the long weekend only a few hours away … I couldn’t help but put together a super cute tropical twist on a long weekend dinner party!!! With my intense schedule these last few weeks and my baby belly growing even bigger (I didn’t think it could even get this big!!) I didn’t want to spend too much time, effort, or money into it … and you don’t need to!!! I was still able to create that “wow factor” and impress my guests to make it extra fun and special using a few tips and tricks that I have up my sleeve.

Follow along below for 5 super simple tips to creating your own tropical tablescape this summer and being the hostess with the most-ess…

1. Find your focal point

In this case, it was my ‘Frond in a Million’ table runner. It was this item I saw on ModCloth that sprouted the whole idea, and I knew it needed to be front and centre. If your focal point isn’t a unique table runner, then maybe it is a fresh bouquet of tropical flowers, or some pineapples running down the centre of your table. Either way, find something that will grab your guest’s eye and be the centre of attention.

2. Get colourful

Don’t be afraid to mix and match different colours and textures into the table! I found this super cute spotted plate set that was a perfect way to add pops of colour in to my tablescape and classic white dinner set. I have to say though the gold flatware has been one of the best purchases I’ve ever made … I use it for every dinner party and it has truly stood the test of time. It also ties in perfectly with my gold spotted glassware that I found.

3. Create layers

Keep the table from looking flat by adding multiple dishes to your settings. This will create some depth to your table and also allows you to mix in some old with the new, like your grandma’s china, or your favourite thrift store finds! Use the layering tip when it comes to cutlery too … even if it’s just you and a friend eating … there’s something special when there’s a napkin placed under your cutlery … it’s the little things!!!

4. You can never have too many candles

Lighting is very important, but whether your get-together is taking place in the day or evening, you can never go wrong with candles. I used this sea glass votive candle holder set to add to my centrepiece but you can mix it up with whatever candles and candle holders you have.

5. Don’t Forget The Conversation Piece:

I always like to incorporate something personalised and fun to the table, something to create conversation and these miniature tea cup shot glasses were perfect! Adding in something unique to your table setting is always necessary. I thought that these shot glasses were a perfect theme for a tropical dinner party on the long weekend … don’t you!? And if you’re in the giving mood, they would also make great little party favours for your guests to take home!
