Summer weather is officially (almost!) here and I could not be more excited to start spending even more time outside with my family.
Speaking of warmer weather… Justin and I have been hard at work getting the farm ready for spending lots of time out there this summer with the kids, and our family & friends! Last year, we put in a new dock at the farm, but we didn’t get to enjoy it for very long because of the devastating fires that hit the Okanagan at the end of the summer. While this blog isn’t supposed to be about the fires, many people have been asking about the farm, and as you can see in the background of some of these photos, there is some visible damage. At one point during the fires, we didn’t know if any of the property had survived, so you can imagine our joy when we found out that the farmhouse and the trees along the water were saved. We did, however, lose our barn, most of the trees on the property, and some other equipment, but we’ve decided to focus on the positives and are just SO grateful to have the farmhouse, our dock, and most importantly, our family was safe.
This was such a scary time for our community, and my heart goes out to everyone who was impacted. That being said, we are so beyond grateful that our farm mostly survived the fires… after everything that happened, it feels even more special than before to have this place to bring our loved ones together.
Knowing that we’ll be spending the majority of the summer repairing the damage from the fires, my goal was to make the dock the go-to zone for the family this summer and I wanted to add some more seating. When I started doing research to find a Canadian business that made durable furniture that would stand the test of time, I stumbled upon Hauser! The #1 thing that I was looking for was Canadian and family-owned and get this… all Hauser furniture is fully made in Canada!
I was thrilled to find Hauser and I’m proud to say that we worked with them to give our dock a little refresh. It’s been a labour of love, and I can’t wait to share every detail with you!
The Details
When it came time to selecting furniture, it was important to me that the space felt both stylish and functional. From the sectional couch to the neutral colourways, I am so obsessed with how it turned out!
Quantum Sectional: This couch is handmade with love at Hauser’s factory in Ontario, bringing you the best of Canadian craftsmanship. It’s all aluminum and super heavy, making it perfect for those windy spots (we’ve lost quite a few pieces of furniture off dock over the years). Since Hauser products are handmade, you get to customize your fabric and finish. I went with a cast pumice Sunbrella fabric and textured taupe finish for my Quantum pieces.
Quantum Club Chairs: I can just picture myself sitting here with my cousins, sipping on a glass of wine, watching the kids jump off the dock… it may sound relaxing but it’s usually pure chaos LOL. These chairs are the perfect addition to our dock for those summer afternoons and evenings spent out here.
Creemore Coffee Table: This table is a game-changer – it looks like teak wood but it’s actually durable rust-proof aluminum! It’s the perfect centrepiece for gatherings with our friends and family, to hold all of the snacks, drinks, sunscreen, you name it. Of course I had to decorate it with some of my fave pieces from my Joe Fresh Collection that launched last summer!
Madirondack Chairs: What’s a Canadian dock without an Adirondack chair?! I love that these are made from an environmentally friendly, heavy-duty material crafted from recycled plastic. These chairs will be the perfect spot to watch the kids swim and enjoy some beautiful summer sunsets!
Cantilever Umbrella: Since we spend so much time out here in the summer, it was super important for me to have lots of shade! This umbrella is huge, so it provides a lot of shaded areas so we can take a break from the sun. And after the sun sets, this rechargeable light brightens up the patio space so well!
