How You Supported Black Mental Health Canada this Month!

I am back with another exciting announcement: our February Cameo update! Each month, Team Jilly and I reinvest the funds from my Cameo bookings into an organization making a positive impact! In support of Black History Month, we welcomed back Coach Carey and Karlyn Percil to the blog to share their wisdom on allyship and critical thinking as it relates to black history.  If you did not get a chance to read their blog posts, be sure to check those out. A HUGE thank you to Coach Carey and Karlyn for taking the time to share your knowledge with our community.

Additionally, with your help, we were able to raise $2,000 through Cameo and decided to reinvest it into the Canadian non-profit Black Mental Health Canada.

What is Black Mental Health Canada?

Black Mental Health Canada (BMHC) advocates for culturally safe, accessible and affordable Mental Health Care to the diverse Black communities in Canada

In other words, their organization advocates for culturally competent mental health support for the black community to address the disparities in mental health resources that black individuals and communities face. They also connect people with affordable mental health resources, with the understanding that there is an accessibility barrier for many folks in need of support. Furthermore, BMHC promotes community education in a number of ways: through speaking engagements, workshops and informational resources.

Here is a video message from the Director of BMHC:

At Jillian Harris Design, we fundamentally believe that everyone should have access to mental health services that are culturally responsive and are administered through an intersectional lens. It is for this reason that our team was motivated to invest this month’s cameo funds back into the community to BMHC whose mission is to make this possible.

With that said, it is important to acknowledge that while we make this investment in support of Black History Month in February, the work to combat anti-Black racism is work that we should all be committed to every day of the calendar year.

For those of you that have booked a Cameo this month or in a previous month, thank you for your support! We are grateful for your contribution to re-investing in so many local and surrounding organizations making positive change!  If you are looking for a unique gift for someone, whether it’s a birthday message, gender reveal, or congratulations message, you can book a Cameo from me here.
