If any of you follow me here or over on Instagram, you’ll know that one of my favourite people is my cousin, Sammy Sylvester! Sam is 11 years younger than me but ever since she was born I’ve always had a special connection with her. Last year Sam got married to Dustin (if you missed it, here’s some pics!!) and shortly after they were pregnant!! I was SO excited to hear this news as both Tori and I had babies that same year so we were about to have THREE babies in our family!! Now we’re just waiting for Steph to hop on the bandwagon … I mean … she DID just mean a hunky guy from Alberta sooooo … wink, wink, nudge, nudge …
As most of you know, I freakin LOVE throwing parties!! I threw Charlie’s 1st party and Max’s Baby Shower so naturally, I jumped at the opporunity to throw Hayden’s Sip & See!! Sam and Dustin are both super low key people and they didn’t want me to do anything crazy (good try, guys! LOL!) and they didn’t want any gifts … and while I had the best intentions of sticking to their requests I maaaaay have got a little carried away. But that’s to be expected, right?? LOL!
So while I was frantically planning and juggling what seemed like a billion things, I reached out to my saving grace, Yuriko, from Vintage Origami Events!! She’s the freakin best … she helps me organize my thoughts (which sometimes takes a tribe of people … LOL!), and helps me get in contact with local companies to help bring my vision to life! This time around she got me in contact with Avalon Rentals, Society Floral and my favourite (non vegan) treats company, Jenna Rae Cakes! If you haven’t heard of them, they’re from Winnipeg and they have to-die-for macaroons (some complete with edible glitter) and I’m constantly trying to convince them to come up with a vegan line! LOL!
I had this idea to do a balloon garland and I had NO idea how to do it so we were searching for tutorials and it turned out to be so freakin EASY to do!! All you need is your balloons (make sure to get all different sizes), fishing line, a sewing needle (with a wide opening for the fishing line), a low temp glue gun and some 3M hooks!! You basically make it like you would popcorn garland … string each of the balloons together (through the tied bit at the bottom of the balloons … lol), and once it’s long enough, attach the removable hook on the wall where you want your balloon garland to hang and fill in the empty spots with little balloons to fill it out! You have to use the low temp glue gun to fill in the spaces with the smaller balloons. Originally I thought double sided tape would work but in the end, it just wouldn’t stick!!! I might have SLIGHTLY over spent on balloons too, which I found out was not necessary … I bought a ton of these 36″ balloons which were amazing but I certainly didn’t need that many, especially when I had so many others of different sizes! LOL.
As far as the food goes, we didn’t have the Sip & See catered, we had it Potluck style so Sam and Steph’s mom (my Aunt) brought a few dishes and Tori made the cakes and these amazing skewers!! We also had the perfectly fitting Baby Bub from Haywire! We tried to keep the color scheme relatively simple so it didn’t look too crazy! We went with whites, pinks, peaches, yellows and greens and I think it turned out AH-MAZING!!
There you have it!! I might have gone a wee bit overboard for Hayden’s Sip & See but she WAS the first girl so I HAD to do it up right … right?? LOL!! Welp. That’s my excuse anyway! LOL! And lastly … I just want to say that I love you SO MUCH baby Hayden and I’m SO SO proud of you both, Sam and Dustin!!
xo

Hey Jillian!!
I am going to do this idea for my sisters bridal shower. Do you recommend using helium or an electric ballon pump?
Thanks so much!!
I would suggest helium for sure if you want them to stay upright but you can do a mix!
