Candice & James had been living in their character home for 6 years and the novelty of it was starting to wear off. Everything was slowly starting to fall apart and they couldn’t seem to keep up with the demand and amount of work they needed to put into it. I went into Candice & James renovation knowing that it was going to be a headache. It didn’t seem like much on their list of to do’s, but character homes always have hidden surprises that you don’t think about. To get the home up to code to even start doing minor renovations you will end up spending more money than originally planned … even if you’re renovating an entirely different part of the house! Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE character homes but you need to be really careful with the up keep to be able to keep them in good condition.
I completely understand, they were tired of being tied down by their needy house and wanted to find something with NO renovations necessary. I was happy for them that Todd was able to find them a home that ticked off all of their boxes … and they no longer have to live with the never-ending DIY’s. Congrats Todd, but don’t get TOO used to winning …
We needed to completely gut the kitchen and main floor as everything was “original” with the home. We replaced the flooring with engineered hardwood from Mercier Flooring in ‘Yorkshire’ in a matte finish. And brightened up the kitchen with all new cabinets and appliances.
I managed to give Candice a dream come true dressing room with the help of Stor-X Organizing Systems.
We completed the already started by James, main bathroom renovation. We added in new tile, a new vanity, new paneling and finished it all off with gorgeous chrome finished and lighting from Design Lighting.
A big thank you as always to Janis Nicolay for the gorgeous photos!!

Beautiful, as always!! And that “dressing room” is a dreammmm. Love it.
Loved it! Really liked the kitchen cabinetry flow and how well everything tied together! Great work! PS dressing room was pretty!
Loved the tank you were wearing at the opening of the show.
Where can I get those shelves used in the bedroom?
I’d love to have something like that done here in my house in Toronto, come Jillian please??????
Love the kitchen drawer pulls! We are renovating our character home kitchen. Could you tell me where you got the ones you used? Many thanks!
I have been struggling for years to complete the design plans for a reno on my daughter’s room. I have all the major components but lacking “that one thing” that ties in all her favorite selections. Yesterday, she saw it on “Love it or List it, Too” ‘s episode called “Construction Zone” Season 6 Episode 7. It was this bold but very modern floral patterned wallpaper featured!!! However, my keyword searches are turning up nothing about the name of the pattern and the name of the manufacturer. I contacted HGTV and they couldn’t track it down either but did give me a link to this website. Are you able to provide that information so we can get a swatch/place an order? Thanks so much!
