Designing a dorm room on a budget can be tricky. I took on this challenge because I have always wanted to live in a dorm room and more importantly have always wanted to decorate one. When I first started brainstorming ideas of how to decorate the dorm, the numbers weren’t adding up. I kept adding items and taking them away and started getting really thrifty and really creative. I wanted to fill you in on my top 3 tips of how I kept everything on budget but also still stylish.
To help with the challenge, I used a Visa Reloadable Prepaid card to track my spending, so that I didn’t go over budget. It was really easy – you can use the card anywhere Visa is accepted (even online), and it’s loaded with security features too! And now … I can reload it and use it again for my next project. Pretty cool.
Tip 1: Simple is fun! Check out these great phrases that we found online and printed out ourselves. Go for something that’s inspirational and exciting. These minor details will get you through those long study sessions.
Tip 2: Keep it neutral. That’s my motto to make decorating super easy. Keeping everything neutral allows you to create focal points in your décor. You can also add pops of colour by using creative vintage pieces or plants.
Tip 3: Remember – it’s a dorm room and part of the challenge is to maximize your space by including storage items that are convenient. This will allow you to bring over all of those must-have items without cluttering your space.
Now it’s your turn!!! Show me your dorm room on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #VisaDormChallenge for a chance to be featured on my blog later this month! I can’t wait to see!!!
