My Daily Smoothie

I gotta be honest, I’m not a breakfast person, not because I’m not hungry but because I’m lazy! LOL! I honestly can’t be bothered to make myself something right when I wake up so I tend to put it off and then all of a sudden 10 am rolls around and I have the jitters because I’ve only had coffee since 9 am … tisk tisk! However, now that I’m a mom and I’m so busy I have to get some food in me in the morning because Leo also needs something when he wakes up from his nap! So, my go-to these days is my Daily Smoothie!

If you follow along with my blog, you’ll know that I LOVE my smoothies and lately I’ve been digging my delish green smoothie mainly because it doesn’t taste like your regular green smoothie, it tastes like you’re drinking a juicy tropical paradise and you can FEEL your body being nourished!! It’s also one of Leo’s FAVES!!

Personally, I don’t like my smoothies to be thick and heavy, I like them to be thin and juicy … and not too sweet! I actually prefer a thin smoothie because by 9 am I’m parched and just want to be able to pound back a healthy smoothie and when smoothies are too thick I find that it takes FOREVER for me to drink them and nobody likes an hour old smoothie!

As I mentioned above, smoothies are one of Leo’s favourite foods … every morning  I make sure to make one for myself and I always make extra for him. These smoothies give me peace of mind that Leo is getting something that is packed with nutrients, healthy fats and greens!! For example, the coconut water in the smoothie is packed with electrolytes and is great for hydration. The avocado and coconut oil are your healthy fats … the banana not only makes it creamy but it’s also packed with potassium!! The chia seeds are my favourite part of the recipe because they have more omegas than a serving of fish and are loaded with healthy fats and protein, they also expand when they come in contact with water which helps to keep you fuller longer!

You’ll notice in the photos that I used fresh spinach for this recipe but you can also use frozen spinach!! One of the many reasons why I love smoothies so much is the fact that it’s a great way to use up greens from your fridge that are starting to soften up and fruit that is starting to overripen … just toss all of the produce and fruits into Ziploc bags and toss them in your freezer for later use! I do this with my pineapple, banana, spinach, and even my avocados!

Oh, also for an extra hit of protein (and flavour, if you use the coconut one!) Genuine Health Fermented Vegan Proteins+ is great to add to your smoothies, it’s totally vegan and one scoop gives you 20g of protein AND it’s FULLY fermented so it won’t cause bloating!! Annnd it’s safe for Leo, which is a huge bonus!

Alright, let’s get to this recipe … shall we??

  1. Do you mind sharing what blender you use? Seems like you probably use yours a lot always in the kitchen, and making your own nut butters and such! My guess would be “Vitamix” but would you mind sharing what model you have as well!

    Thanks!

  2. Just wondering since this makes two portions if you could freeze the other portion for another day? Or better yet prepare for the week and freeze and take out to drink each morning?

  3. Thanks for sharing, looks delicious! Do you know what the difference is in fermented protein versus filtered protein?

  4. Hi Jillian,
When you freeze your avo’s, do you add anything to it or do you just cut up and put in bag/freezer?
    Thank you!!
