Summer Maternity Staples

Throughout my entire pregnancy I’ve been doing my best to wear items that aren’t maternity and instead have been sizing up and finding items that are loose and flowy. I feel so lucky being pregnant in the summer and not having to worry too much about maternity jeans and bottoms … it is SO much more comfortable!!! BUT, now that I’m on the final stretch and my belly is getting EXTRA big …. I now understand why maternity stores exist. Most of my dresses are getting too short and non-maternity items aren’t fitting me the way that they should. I have finally started shopping at maternity stores and have even started buying some easy access nursing tops.

As you can see, my maternity staples in the summer are dresses, dresses and more dresses. But with my growing belly lately … I have only been able to wear longer ones to save some length to go over the bump!!! Either way, they can ALL easily be paired with any type of shoe but lately (the more pregnant I get), I have been gearing towards comfort. I never thought I would be the one to wear flats or wedges but I have to admit … the extra bit of weight has been hurting my back and making it a wee bit more difficult to stand in heels for long periods of time. If you’re NOT pregnant you can totally throw on a cute pair of heels and dress these looks up for a night out or dinner with the girls because NONE of these dresses (shown below) are maternity …

If you’re like me and have a tough time finding cute maternity clothes that are stylish … I have listed some of my favourite places to shop for you here: Nordstrom, Topshop, Asos, Old Navy, Joe Fresh, Isabella Oliver, Hatch, Modcloth and Destination Maternity.

  1. I love forever 21, Aritza or Zara for my pregnancy dresses and suprisingly I’m learning to love old navy! (And their prices)
So affordable and I’m only 23 weeks so I can still go without paying for an actual maternity dress. I totally agree summer pregnancy is awesome so we can avoid the pants!
Lovin your pregnancy style, tips and advise!
    Your the bomb!

  2. I’ve been shopping at PinkBlush, Old Navy, Gap and ASOS. I also got away with wearing non maternity stuff, Aritzia is pretty good for that even at 35 weeks since their dresses are stretchy and some do run loose. I went and bought small heels to wear to a wedding and now that I’m so close to the end I’ve just stick to neutral flats for special events. My feet swelling and walking around doesn’t go well with being 35 weeks pregnant.

  3. My first pregnancy was in the winter so I had to wear maternity pants pretty much the entire time 🙁 it got pretty uncomfortable! This time I get to be pregnant in the summer and all I wear are non-maternity maxi dresses and stretchy dresses and skirts. I’ll probably have to buy some maternity shorts soon though! I also recently bought the cute white swing dress from Chicwish and wore it to a wedding and I got so many compliments on it! Thanks Jillian!

  4. 2 of my pregnancies were in the winter and 1 in the summer and I found the summer one worst bc of the constant sweaty vagina! So gross. I had to wear deodorant down there. But I live in Toronto and it was super hot, lots of days of over 40 with humidity.

  5. Sorry to reply to your comment with such a long comment, but— Oh yes. This sparks many memories for me lol Between the sweaty vagina and the constant boob sweat, there is no clean and cool moment! After getting on a breastfeeding and pumping schedule I would feel so fresh and good after a shower, only to have my milk start dripping out all over me. Then I would get that under control and have my newborn barf down my shirt and bra lol It was so frustrating to never stay clean feeling more that a few mins!
