    Food Friday: Mediterranean Turkey Burgers

    August 1, 2014 • 10:00 am

My bestie and cousin, Tori, is a mom, dietician and a LOVER of good food!!! She has just started Fraiche Nutrition to share all of her amazing meal ideas and health tips with all of you!!! Today she's sharing her take on a turkey burger. You go, girl!!!

Thanks Jilly!!!! These burgers are a lean take on a traditional burger, still packed with protein but a much fresher taste and without all of the saturated fat. A perfect impressive meal to prep ahead for a weeknight meal, and just in time for the long weekend!

1 lb. of ground turkey or chicken

    The zest of one lemon

    1 clove crushed garlic

    1 tsp. dijon mustard

    1/2 cup chopped parsley

    2 tbsp. olive oil

    salt and pepper to taste

    tzatziki and parsley to garnish

Mix all of the ingredients except the tzatziki and parsley for garnish together in a bowl (don't over mix). Form into patties and place covered in refrigerator.

Place the burger on a hot grill and cook until done, about 3-4 minutes per side.

Garnish with a dollop of tzatziki and some fresh chopped parsley and serve with your favourite salad. Voila!

What recipe will you be trying this long weekend???? Have a great one, BC!!!
    - Tori

    BC Tree Fruits Packinghouse Tour

    July 30, 2014 • 10:00 am

I think it's pretty obvious how much I genuinely LOOOOVE BC cherries! Pretty much my FAV summer fruit to use in all of my summer recipes! Earlier this month, I visited the BC Tree Fruits cherry packinghouse and orchard in Kelowna, and I couldn't believe how much time and effort is put into ensuring every cherry is absolutely perfect!!!!!! I thought I'd share what I learned, and walk you through this amazing experience!

Once the cherries are ripe enough to be picked off the trees, they are delivered to the packinghouse, and the cherries are immediately put through a hydro cooler to cool the fruit down. From there, the cherries are put into cold storage before being run down the line.

The bins are brought from storage to the front of the packing line where the cherries are immersed in water. The temp of the water is freezing, but because the water is always moving, it doesn't freeze! It was sooo cool to watch!

The first part of the line is the cluster cutter where the stems of the cherries are cut to make sure that each cherry going down the line is a single cherry.

The cherries then go through the first sorting tables where any defects or clusters are removed. From there, the cherries go down the line into another hydro cooler where they are cooled even more.

After the cooling process, they go through the computerized defect sorter where in about 1 second, 16 pictures of each cherry are taken!!!! 16 photos per cherry?!?! That's a lot of photos!!! This step blew my mind!!!!! Each cherry is then categorized based on size, weight and colour.

From there, each cherry gets put down a specific line depending on the size and colour. Any defects go down a process grade line.

After that, the fruit goes down to another sorting table where any defects are removed before being packaged.

Fruit is then bagged, boxed and palletized to leave the packinghouse and head to a store near you!

This experience definitely made me appreciate BC cherries even more than I already did!! BC Tree Fruits, thank you so much for having me and teaching me all about the cherry packing process!!!!! And HUGE thank you to Sharla of Sharla Pike Photography for these beautiful photos!

And...I have an announcement!!!!! I will be taking over BC Tree Fruits Twitter and Instagram accounts...starting now!!! Follow along and let's talk fruits!!!!

My Bachelorette Recap: The Final Rose

    July 29, 2014 • 10:00 am

CONGRATULATIONS SWEET ANDI!!!! WHAT an AWESOME and beautiful ending!!!

I mean who was really surprised by her decision...I wasn’t! And no, I didn’t read any spoilers!!!  She made it pretty obvious that she was smitten …unlike other seasons where people are still unsure and confused at that point.  (ahem fingers pointing at me) Andi was sure that her connection and love for Josh was so much more than what she had with Nick.

I felt kind of bad for Andi during her date with Nick, because he literally put her on the spot, and what was she supposed to say?!?! At the end of the day, it is a show, and I’m sure as much as she wanted to tell him how she really felt then and there…she couldn’t!!!!! Andi did the right thing by sending Nick home before picking out a ring and getting him even more excited than he was, because his heart would have hurt that much more.  I’m proud Andi was able to distinguish the physical love between the emotional love - I mean her and Nick had it going on... but it didn’t really seem to go beyond the sexual connection (cue sexual healing).

I feel bad for Nick, but speaking from experience I know he will be ok.  Even though listening to Nick speak last night was sooooo painful to watch, poor guy could not put ONE sentence together!!!!! He got the villain card and maybe learned a little about himself - but he’s not a bad guy. He will bounce back and find love…but first all those bachelor reunion parties!! lol…

We all think the show is over and they go on to live happily ever after -  but…these next few months…are the real test. I wish Andi & Josh success, privacy, downtime and so much love!

Congratulations on your engagement, you two lovebirds! On another note…who is The Bachelor next?!?!?! Is it Chris? Yes????

I LOVED all of Andi's breezy backless tops and dresses that she wore in this episode, and if you got back, show it off!!!! I thought I would share my current backless picks with all of you!!!

HAPPY MONDAY everyone! What an amazing weekend!! I hope all of your weekends were as great and full as mine!! I am love love loving this bright orange dress...can't get enough of this big pop of colour...and I love how flattering it looks with my summer tan!!!!

My makeup and beautiful braid were done by my incredible makeup artist, Kaitlin!!!! I love using DryBar Frizz Fighter to fight those fly aways in the summer! Another fav is Josie Maran's Hair Serum!!! To create this braid, simply take a small section of your hair near your part, and begin french braiding it to your hair. Once you reach your ear, finish with a simple braid, and tie with an elastic! So simple and so cute for summer weddings!!!!

Dress via Zara (similar) | Shoes via TopShop | Watch via Michael Kors | iPhone Case via Kate Spade

    Have a great week everyone!!!!!
