Father’s Day is coming up this SUNDAY and we decided there’s no better way to celebrate the men in your life than by grilling up some gourmet dogs and crackin’ a cold one! ?? So, we had a little fun and whipped up 6 flavour packed dogs for you to impress pops with this Father’s Day!
The best thing about these dogs is that there is no particular recipe as we know everyone’s tastebuds and love for hot things and sauce differs so we’re giving you the main ingredients to each delicious dog and you can put on as little or as much of the toppings as YOU (or as dad ?) desires!
One thing I will mention is that we used the Beyond Meat vegan sausages for our “hot dogs” and they were delicious!! In fact, they were so good that we believe they would even fool your meat-loving dad! We DOUBLE DOG DARE you to try one to see if he notices! Challenge accepted?? LOL!
Alright, first things first …
Directions
- Prep the ingredients of your desired dog so that they’re ready to load onto your hot dog and bun while they’re still hot off the grill!
- Fire up your BBQ to medium heat, once it’s nice and hot, place your sausages on the grill to cook.
- When your dogs are getting close to being fully cooked, place your buns (the bread ones ?!) on the grill and toast until your desired perfection!
- When the dogs are cooked and the buns are toasted, remove everything from the grill and load up on your desired toppings below!
Nacho Dog
- Guacamole (smother this on both sides of bun!)
- Diced tomatoes
- Thinly sliced jalapeños
- Roughly chopped cilantro
- Grated cheddar cheese (we used Emborg vegan cheese!)
- Lime wedges (to squeeze on the dog when ready to serve!)
- Tortilla chips (this is totally optional but cute to serve on the side!)
Kraut Dog
- Vegan Thousand Island Dressing (smother on both sides of the bun – my favourite is Earth Island!)
- Saurkraut
- Mustard (drizzle on top of dog!)
Buffalo Dog
- Vegan Mayo (Layer on one side of the bun – we used Vegenaise Vegan Mayo!)
- Vegan Blue Cheese (We used Pulse Kitchen Cashew Kind of Blue and crumbled it on top of the dog!)
- Hot Sauce (we used Franks – drizzle as much or as little as you like!)
- Pepperoncini (layer these on top of the dog if you like a little heat!)
Dad Dog
- BBQ Sauce (spread on one side of the bun – use your favourite one!)
- Sauteed Onions (all you have to do is sautee the onions until your desired perfection on medium heat in olive oil!)
- Pepperoncini (layer these on top of the dog if you like a little heat!)
- Mustard (drizzle LOTS on top!)
Chicago Dog
- Sliced pickles
- Diced raw white onions
- Diced tomatoes
- Mustard (drizzle LOTS on top!)
Jilly Dog
- Beans
- Thinly sliced Jalapenos
- Diced raw white onions
- Diced raw green onions
- Grated cheddar cheese (we used Emborg vegan cheese!)
- Mustard (drizzle LOTS on top!)
- Ketchup (drizzle on top or smother on one side of the bun)
There you have it! Just remember – you don’t have to use any specific recipe, just have fun and add the toppings to your preferred taste and you’ll be set! Try coming up with your OWN creation and make sure to share the name of it along with its ingredients with us below in the comments!
