Leo’s Favourite (Deceivingly Healthy!) Popsicles

This summer we have been ALL ABOUT popsicles for breakfast!! I mean, who WOULDN’T want a popsicle every day for breaky? Especially when you’re two years old!! LOL!

Well, these aren’t just your average store bought popsicles loaded with sugar! They’re delicious, healthy, made with love by your mama homemade popsicles … and they can’t get any EASIER to whip up!

The recipe below makes about 6 popsicles. Sometimes what I like to do is double the recipe and then split it into two batches, then I add different types of fruit to each batch to make a couple of different flavours!! Also, feel free to add kale, spinach, oats or flax if you like!! The first 6 ingredients I have listed below is usually my base for ALL my smoothies!!

Leo’s Favourite (Deceivingly Healthy!) Popsicles

Recipe by From the Kitchen of Jillian Harris

Ingredients

  • 1/2 banana

  • 1 tbsp coconut oil

  • 1 tbsp hemp seeds

  • 1 tbsp chia seeds

  • 1/2 cup almond milk

  • 1 tbsp maple syrup

  • Desired fruit of choice (peaches, strawberries, cherries, etc.)

Directions

  • Add banana, coconut oil, hemp seeds, chia seeds, almond milk and maple syrup to blender.
  • Add in desired fruit to taste. If you prefer to have the popsicles a bit sweeter add more fruit.
  • Generally, I only add about half a peach or 4 strawberries.
  • Blend until smooth.
  • Pour into popsicle moulds.
  • Place the popsicle sticks in the center of each mould.
  • Place in freezer until fully frozen (approx a couple of hours).
  • Enjoy!

  1. I’m definitely going to try this, but can I replace the coconut oil with olive oil? My son has a sensitivity to coconut. I’ll probably replace the maple syrup with our raw honey. 🙂 Our toddler is going to love these! Thanks!

    1. I’ve only tried them with coconut oil but feel free to play around and test things out!! Let me know how it turns out!!! xo

  2. You are amazing. I have a picky eater and need to start thinking outside the box like this, especially on hot days. Thank you for sharing ?

    1. Replace the banana with ripe or frozen avocado! Makes them a little bit creamy like a banana would, hope this helps ?

  3. I really want to make these for my almost 2 year old but she has a food sensitivity to Bananas. What substitute would you recommend?

  4. Hi, my name is Douglas and I’m from São Paulo – Brazil. I wonder how you can be so beautiful and wonderful.
…And what surprises me most about you is the fact that even pregnant and full of professional and personal commitments you can post daily to your fans.
    Thanks for existing!
    P.s. I’m sure I’ll make Leo’s ice cream here.
    Xoxoxo

  5. Hi Jillian
I grew up in Kelowna and lived on an acreage by the airport! Anyway amazing cook mom followed with a an acre garden and we created some amazing recipes together! I’d love to share some of them especially her vegetarian recipes and vegan! I don’t follow much but love both of your blogs and Instagram! Can I get a email so I can send them to you both! My mom passed away this past Christmas and I would just love to see one of her recipes enjoyed by many!! No strings attached!

  6. We made a batch after supper this evening! I used coconut milk instead of almond because that’s what I had. My boys are very excited for tomorrow!

  7. My little one has a sensitivity to bananas but i know she would LOVE these. Any suggestions on what I could sub the banana part with?? Thanks for sharing 🙂

  8. Hi Jillian!!

Thanks for the recipe. I’be been thinking after your IG story and have done tons of research and I really think I want to attempt to cut diary out of my life personally. It’s hard though because .. I love cheese … maybe you could do a blog in the future about great dairy alternatives you’ve found in your years of research? I think finding a good alternative when you start would be so helpful. For example any cheese, cream cheese, have you ever found a sour cream alternative? Etc.

Thank you!! I love following you and all the conversations you have. They are so real and really get people thinking. I never would have even considered anything like this before I started following you.

  9. Jillian~
Is the reason you add the hemp & chia seeds purely nutritional, or do they actually add to the taste of the popsicle?
Can you tell I’ve never tried that stuff and am in no hurry to. ?

    Thank you

  10. These are amazing! also so good when you substitute for chocolate almond milk. thanks for sharing 🙂 my 2 year old picky eater loves these.

  11. So I may have not read the entire instructions and added more like 20-25 strawberries…oops! All good though as it made 8 popsicles. Delicious!
