Can you believe it’s already AUGUST?! Holy man!! I’m actually baffled how quickly these past few months have flown by. Thankfully, for us here in the Okanagan, September is normally an extension of summer and stays pretty hot!! Speaking of the Okanagan … we really do live in a little slice of paradise here and our summer months are the busiest time of year for our little city … this is when we get all of the Albertans hauling their boats and toys and soaking up the sun on our beaches (hey, we used to be that family until we moved!!! LOL!!).
So, needless to say, in order to dodge the crowds on the beach, we like to have our own little staycations at home over the summer holidays. Typically we get quite a bit of company staying with us anyway so it works for everyone. We just make sure that we’re all stocked up on summer staycation essentials prior to the weekend, especially when we know we’re going to be hosting guests.
When it comes to my staycation essentials, I’m of course, ALL about the pool floats (can you ever have enough??) … but there are a few other items I love to have on hand and I’ve gone ahead and rounded up some of my favourites below, all of which can be found on Etsy Canada!!
When it comes down to hosting a fun poolside staycation at our home, cute towels, beach hats, and sunglasses are a MUST. We also like to have a ton of snacks on hand that can sit outside on our table in the shade for people to grab and eat as they start getting a little hankerin’ for something so we love having paper plates and cups at the ready because who wants to do dishes while you’re on “holidays” anyway??
OH!!! And you can’t forget the paper straws either!! I’ve always been a huge fan of paper straws, they make the cutest props in photos and they’re SO MUCH BETTER for our environment! It makes me so happy to see so many restaurants in our area making the swap to paper straws!!
1. Paper Cups | 2. Party Sign | 3. SPF Lip Balm | 4. Beach Hat | 5. Sunglasses | 6. Ice Cream Bar Sign | 7. Paper Straws | 8. Drink Cooler | 9. Beach Towel | 10. Paper Plates | 11. Fringe Towel
If you feel like getting a little “wild” with your staycation … balloons and signs ALWAYS do the trick. I find they are a simple way to turn things up a notch and give your space that extra personalized touch. Ps. How cute would it be to set up a little ice cream bar for the kiddos (or, nice cream, in my case!!), a little area designated for building your perfect bowl complete with sprinkles … and cherries … etc.
What are some of your favourite staycation essentials to have on hand during the summer months?? I know some of you are going to make me jealous and say “ice cold bevy’s” … and I can’t WAIT until I can indulge in those again!! LOL!!! If that’s you, make sure you get some individual drink coolers for around the pool to keep those nice and CHILLY!

What are your favourite things to do in Kelowna in the summer? My fiancé and I are currently planning our honeymoon for next July with a few days and nights in Kelowna!
I love visiting our Farmer’s Market … stopping by local fruit stands … and when I’m not pregnant I love going to Quails Gate for dinner and WINE!!!! LOL
Where did you get the lounge chairs around your deck.

This looks heavenly! SIgn me up! I love a good staycation.
We have a pool and I used to entertain with paper plates. At the end of one summer season I stocked up on outdoor plastic plates. Just as easy to throw in the dishwasher and less waste.
Lovely home! I have wondering, how much energy you have with your tummy.
Vancouver is among those best cities to live in!
Where did you get the umbrellas on the pool deck? Gorgeous!
