Wedding Talk: Choosing A Colour Scheme

So, as you may have heard, my cousin Sammy is getting married…in TWO WEEKS!! As her Maid of Honour, we have discussed just about every detail of the big day and colour scheme was by far one of the hardest parts to decide on and to keep consistent. I thought I may as well share what we’ve learned to help make the process quicker and easier for you! Even though I am talking specifically about weddings in this post, you can use these tips and guidelines for just about any party, anniversary, birthday or even baby shower! (wink, wink!)

1. Location, location, location…
The location is going to be one of the most important elements in finding your colour scheme. Is it outdoors or indoors? When you visit the space, take notes of the surrounding colours like wall paint and flooring. Is there anything unique about the space like exposed brick or wood? Maybe you are outside in a colourful garden. Take all these colours surrounding your venue into consideration.

2. Just Do YOU!
Sammy really wanted something laid-back, fun and care-free, because that is who she is. She obviously wanted it to be beautiful, but not seem over the top. I think it’s really important to incorporate your personality into the colour scheme. Take a look at your closet, what colours do you see most of?  I know there are a lot of other people that are excited about your wedding day and have strong suggestions for what you should do or wear or decorate…but just remember … it’s YOUR day! Just do YOU!

3. Snowflakes or Sun Rays?
The time of year can definitely help decipher the colour palette you choose. A lot of people think rich, darker hues for winter weddings, and light, bright colours for summer weddings, but you know what I am thinking?? When in doubt, neutral, soft tones work any time of the year. There really are no rules, so once again…just do you!

4. What Looks Good On You?
Let’s be honest, as much as you want everyone else to look great in your pics, the person you really care about is YOU! If purple just does NOT look good on you, then scrap it! What colour looks best on you?

5. Pick something and stick with it!
If there is one thing that I’ve learned throughout this process, it is to go with your instincts. How many times have we spotted something new on Pinterest or in a magazine and wanted to change everything!! I do agree that this is a big day in the books and of course you want it to be perfect, but the most important part is the memories you are making with your family and friends and as long as the bar is stocked and music is good, there is no need to panic!

To try and make life a little easier for you, I have put together a variety of gorgeous colour schemes for any season or location that I hope inspire you for your wedding or celebration!! Alright…feast your eyes!!
