Home Tour Series: Laundry Room

Good morning everyone!! Are you ready to see another area of our home?? This space is one that many of you have already seen via my Insta stories and in previous blog posts but it’s going to be fun to chat details with you today about our LAUNDRY ROOM!!

The original laundry room in this house was REALLY tiny! In fact, in one little area, they had the laundry room, entryway, pantry, AND bathroom!! It was pretty tight so we decided to push out the left and right sides of our house about 8 feet to give ourselves some extra room to play with which is why our laundry room is so big … it’s probably bigger than what I would normally go for but I have no regrets making it this size, I absolutely love it and it’s seriously the laundry room of my dreams!! Every time I look at this space I can’t help but feel so proud of how beautifully it came together!

I honestly had no idea how it was going to turn out in the end, I had a vision for this space but I didn’t have an actual mood board or design board to go off of and I was making lots of the decisions on the fly all while filming Love It Or List It Vancouver and Jillian and Justin, managing my business and being a new mama to Leo! To say the least, I was pretty overwhelmed by everything and looking back I feel as though the whole house wasn’t really thought out as well as it could have been and I sent so much of my time agonizing over every little detail! Especially when it came to the laundry room! When I think back to designing the laundry room, Justin probably thought I was officially losing my mind … he knows JUST how much I love my white so I think it REALLY shocked him when I dropped the bomb that I was debating over a black or baby blue laundry room! You can see our laundry room from most areas of our home so Justin thought I was crazy and if I didn’t stick with white that I would be so unhappy with it! Welp. I KNEW people were expecting my entire house to be white so I REALLY wanted to do something unique and different but at the same time I didn’t want to disappoint anyone! I wanted this space to have a nostalgic, old-fashioned feel to it … I pictured a retro pattern, a farmhouse sink, marble, and COLOUR, so I knew I had to trust my gut on this … but it wasn’t easy!

I was going back and forth on the tile for so long, I loved the tile that I had picked out (which is the one we went for in the end, Atlas 1 from the Cement Tile Shop!) I remember showing this to everyone and NOBODY liked it but I loved it because it gave that retro feel I was aiming for and even though it’s patterned it’s still timeless, (it was a bold move going for this but I think it actually helps tie the whole space together!). I ordered the hardware online without even seeing a sample, I knew I wanted large knobs but I didn’t bother to bust out a measuring tape to see what size of knob would be best for the cabinets, I just ordered blindly and I remember getting them in the mail and freaking out because they were massive!

THEN when it came to the actual colour of the space, I was so torn that it came down to me going “eenie meenie miney mo” between the black and baby blue (I felt like I was back on The Bachelorette ? )… and I landed on BLUE and I just went for it and had the cabinets pained in “Smoke” by Benjamin Moore and I crossed my fingers that I would love it all while everyone was telling me it was a bad decision … in fact, I made some pretty massive decisions in this space that nobody agreed with so it left me feeling a little nervous especially when I saw the cabinets being installed and I had a slight heart attack and PANICKED when I saw the colour and instantly thought I made the BIGGEST mistake!

This space was a serious roller coaster of emotions, I went from thinking “This is stupid and ugly … to HOLY SHIT I’M A GENIUS” LOL!! I beat myself up so much over this, I remember staring at the hardware and thinking to myself “Why wouldn’t you measure these and get a sample ordered to see if you actually like it?!” but thankfully, in the end, I STILL love everything about this space and the knobs worked perfectly, the round knobs are the Newport Knobs and the Alexander Pulls are both from Emtek! I think they make the space look unique and whimsical!

It wasn’t until the marble countertops from Caesarstone and the marble tile (in Oriental White 3×12) from Olympia Tile + Stone were installed that I really saw the space coming together and at that moment I KNEW my decisions were all true to my vision and I fell in LOVE with it!! Phewwww!!! Actually a little tip for you … if you’re planning on doing a bold colour for your cabinets, go with a marble tile to tie everything together, it’s so classy and timeless!

Also, because this space is U shaped, I was able to dedicate the right-hand side of the laundry room to Nacho! We like to keep Nacho’s food, treats, leashes, and collars in the first top and bottom cupboards and right next to that we created a wrapping station! I keep all of my wrapping paper, tags, art supplies, ribbons, etc in these drawers and cupboards and this little area is where I do ALL of my wrapping for Christmas!! All of the cabinets in our laundry room were done by Kelowna Innovative Cabinets and designed by Home Image Interiors!

My washer and dryer are LG and they’re from Best Buy Canada, I LOVE this set because our LG Steam Washer also has a mini washer (aka sidekick washer!) on the bottom so I can use this to wash delicates or Leo’s clothes which also helps to reduce the amount of water used if you only have a small wash to do!! Ps. Did you notice the hanging area for delicates right beside our dryer?? This is a game changer!! Every laundry room needs this! LOL!

The farmhouse sink and faucets are from Kohler, I’m seriously a sucker for farmhouse sinks and I love the size of this one! The window is from Plygem and the window coverings were made by Q Design Centre! The fun antique looking light is from Barn Light Electric Company and the pot lights were installed by Bridge Energy along with lighting from Sylvania! Oh, and that adorable laundry bin is from World Market … everyone ALWAYS asks about this laundry bin and I LOVE it because it’s easy to move around considering it has wheels on the bottom and even though it’s always stuffed with laundry, it doesn’t matter because it’s so damn cute! LOL!!

There are also two cabinets to the left of our washing machine, one is for Justin and the other is for me, we hang all of our coats here and I have no idea what I’m going to do with Leo’s just yet or any future kids jackets … I’m going to have to do some rearranging at some point! LOL! I also really love the fact that there is so much storage in this laundry room, the cupboards are stocked with all of my gift wrapping supplies and cleaning supplies so I think I need to do some organizing here too but it’s amazing to have all of this extra room for things plus, I also enjoy having the open shelves for towels and little pieces of decor!

  1. I absolutely LOVE this room. It’s bigger than my whole kitchen. In your spare time (ha!) I’d like to see how you could renovate a really small home (1040 sq.ft.) – it would be a challenge for sure.

  2. There is not one thing I would change about this room. It is perfect and gorgeous and an absolute DREAM. I love it. I think my favorite is the color of the cabinets, it’s perfect. Is it the same color as your front door?

  3. I love how you added some colour amidst all the white, and that your flooring is interesting. The hanging rod is great, but do you also have any flat drying racks?

  4. I love your laundry room. You are so lucky to have all that cupboard and closet space. Love the farmhouse sink and a window to let in the sunshine. The color is a good choice goes well with the tile floors.

  5. What a fabulous design! As an interior designer myself, it’s the most difficult making decisions for our own spaces, right?
The only thing I would have done differently is not have the 3 baskets under the cabinets. I would have taken the cabinet to the floor. But, that’s me. I like things put away, out of sight. Baskets remind me of the perfect storing place when you dont know where to put things! I adore the color you chose … it’s perfect. Love your tile, valance and love the shutter style doors on the cabinet. Great design work, as always!! ♡

  6. Love this laundry room! The color, tile, knobs & pulls, all of it! Trust your gut!
My laundry room is off my kitchen, has a pocket door with glass, and my desk built in too. Very functional.

  7. We are in the middle of a renovation and would love to incorporate one of those white sinks that are shown in your laundry room and kitchen. Do they scratch? I’ve has people tell me that frying pans ect can scratch the white off unless you get a super high end version. Any insight here? I saw Tori included one as well in her renovation!

      1. Have you created the layout vlog yet? I would love to see how the house flows together! The placement of the stairs to go downstairs? P.S. I love your house!

  8. I LOVE this space. We built a house and planned for family. Now we have so many things we would have tweaked. Some things so glad we did. Hard to know. I wish our mudroom/ laundry was bigger who knew we’d want it twice the size.

  9. Love the wrapping station idea. Also are your cabinets as deep as the w/d? Our cabinets set so far back over the w/d and I can’t reach anything!

  10. Hi Jillian
Beautiful room! I love your textured rug… Could you please tell me where its from?
    Thank you!

  11. What? This laundry room is insanely pretty. Yep, insanely! I love all the woven details, the soft blue cabinets, patterned tiles. Just wow, beautiful combinations throughout

  12. Can you tell me what size your laundry room dimentions are? This is adorable; too cute for words! Love you on Love It or List It. I have a lot of colonial furniture which I love, like my 18th century bedroom furniture, secretary, and others. My husband loves ship, so I purchased a copy of the U.S.S. Constitution for him. We also love solid brass items; we have many Baldwin Brass items which were gifts over the year and we love them. We would like to use brass in our kitchem. We know Baldwin Brass still makes hardware and would like to put them on cabinets. We loved your pendants in your kitchen. They seem like they would not conflict with potentially polished brass hardware. Is there any way to find these pendants cheaper? Our budget for light fixtures is not very high, but we love your pendants. Can you give us their size etc. What exactly did you choose so if we decide to take this plunge for expense, we know what do choose?

Also, if you know where they can be purchased cheaper, that would be extremely helpful. We also still love polished brass for the outdoor lanterns which we would like to find, but don’t know if anyplace offers a finish which does not tarnish or need polishing, and the same would go for the other kitchen polished brass hardware. Baldwin has a lifetime guarantee so we are hoping they will not give us problems with tarnishing. We are not very technical savvy, but found your site. Is it possible to email this information? You are so cute about helping others and we are older and don’t know where to look for finding the brass items we are looking for. Also, we love cherry furniture and have many pieces of it. We don’t plan on getting rid of it, but instead using where we can. We are leaning toward cream/off white cabinets in the kitchen with the island made of cherry. Are the white/off white cabinets in to stay do you think? Could use the help right away; after 20 years of hoping to build, husband’s cancer surgery, we are moving ahead for a new beginning. Any help you can offer would be such a blessing. Thank you for your kindness in sharing!

  13. Love the blue paint color. You made a great decision to stick with your original choice. All the elements blend and stand out at the same time. Wouldn’t mind doing laundry in this cheerful space.

  14. I love , love , love everything about this room,! I am moving in two weeks. Our laundry room cupboards are a retro bright teal. Not sure what I feel about that yet!

  15. Hey how did you order the laundry baskets? It says this item doesn’t ship!? Help I need this!! Thanks.

  16. Hi Jillian,

Whenever I think about my dream laundry room yours always comes to my mind – it is so peaceful and inviting … I could spend a lot of time in there 🙂

This is random, I know you got the washer and dryer from Best Buy, but what is the brand of washer and dryer you all have (if you know the style that would be awesome!).

    Thank you!

  17. I love the blue “Smoke” color from Benjamin Moore. I can’t seem to find that color. Do you have the color code or number for this exact color???

  18. Gorgeous! Love every detail. Do you know if you used the 1 1/4″ or 1 5/8″ Newport knobs? Thanks!

  19. Curious to know the color on the walls and door? I love the smoke color! I’m looking to use on cabinets, just curious on coordinating colors! Thank you!

  20. Amazing laundry room!! I love everything about it, actually using smoke on my laundry room cabinets, just curious what color did you use on the wall adjacent to the gray interior door? And what color gray is I’m the door? THANK YOU!

  21. Any chance you have a floor plan view that you could share. I’m in the process of designing floorplans and I am struggling with laundry and mud room. This looks like a great size and I could use some inspiration of use of space.

  22. I have enjoyed reading the information you have posted about some useful renovation services for laundry renovation. Really these are more useful and also helpful. I am very glad to go through your informative article. Thanks for sharing a nice blog.

  23. Really it is a great article and more helpful to get the best assistance for laundry renovation. I am very glad to go through this kind of helpful blog. Thanks for sharing a nice blog.

  24. What color did you paint the walls and ceiling? I just love the cabinet color and want to find a light color that compliment it. This is such a beautiful laundry room.

  25. Hi, I’m clueless regarding mixing metals. I love to duplicate your laundry room but our floors are a warm wood color. Is it ok to mix antique brass handles with chrome if that is the case? I never know how to mix metals on hardware. Thanks!

  26. I just love th gift wrap station. Did you have your wood worker create the attachments and dowel for the gift wrap? It’s genius!
