Home Tour Series: Leo’s Bedroom & Bathroom

Good morning!! Alright, I know MANY of you are going to be eager to check out today’s Home Tour Series because it’s one of the spaces that I had so much fun designing!! It’s Leo’s bathroom AND bedroom!! I never thought our kid’s bathroom was going to be one of the most used rooms in our home but it turns out it’s become QUITE the party zone in our household, especially when we have company over!

Generally, our company comes over around dinner time which is right around the same time Leo has his bath before bed … and normally our company has kids of their own too … so, we like to pour ourselves a glass of vino (well, everyone, minus me! lol), crank some tunes (aka Baby Shark ??) and get all of the kids in the bath!! I think the most we have ever had crammed into Leo’s bathroom was 3 kids in the tub, 5 adults, and two dogs! LOLLL!! I mean, it’s a pretty cozy space, especially thanks to the heated floors from NuHeat! Warms buns, all around!

Leo’s bathroom was one of the rooms in the house that I thought it was appropriate to have a punch of colour (but also keep it timeless and not go TOO crazy!!) which is why we decided to go with the blue vanity (which is painted “Winter’s Eve” from Benjamin Moore, for those who are curious!) and the brushed gold fixtures from Kohler and develop the rest of the space from there.

I absolutely fell in LOVE with the Tri Weave Tile from Olympia Tile and Stone, I thought it would tie in nicely with the nautical blue but I was concerned that it might clash with the Ogee Drop Tile by Fireclay Tile that I wanted to use for Leo’s bathtub!! I was worried what it was going to look like with the two different patterns in the small space … I wasn’t sure if they would clash or not and I loved them both so much and I knew I couldn’t compromise so I took a leap of faith and included both of them and thankfully they really compliment each other and the surrounding space!! Phewww!!

The whole nautical vibe wasn’t really my intention with this bathroom but as the space started evolving, we just went with it!! The Ogee Drop tiles, the blue vanity, and the gold faucets tied together so well but there were a few pieces I was missing … such as the light fixtures, it took me so FREAKIN’ long to pick out a light fixture for this space that I felt fit in … we replaced them a few times until we found the perfect fixtures which turned out to be the Waucoba Arm Lamps in brushed bronze from Wayfair! If this is something you are going through and you’re not happy with your light decision, don’t be afraid to change your mind!!

I get a TON of questions about Leo’s shower curtain and because the ceiling in his bathroom is so high, I decided to have a shower curtain custom made! I ordered the Navy Burnside Buffalo Check fabric from Caitlin Wilson and sent it to Q Design Centre where they made these gorgeous shower curtains which fit the space perfectly!! I should also mention that the mirror in his bathroom is from HomeSense (the frame was wood but we painted it white!), the countertops are “Frosty Carinna” from Caesarstone’s Supernatural Collection, the lighting is from Sylvania and the cabinet hardware is the Hammered bin pulls from Emtek in satin brass! Ps. How adorable is the “The World is Your Oyster” print?! I found this online at The Cross!

I knew I wanted to do something with the blank wall in this space, it was massive and felt empty … I knew I didn’t want to paint it a dark colour as I loved how light and airy this bathroom felt and I also didn’t feel like hanging two pieces of art on this wall as I thought it would look strange and that’s when I decided to go totally out of the norm and get a mural for this wall! I searched high and low for the perfect mural until I came across the Ships Mural from a local Vancouver company called Anewall and it is nothing short of perfection, it literally makes the WHOLE bathroom and I love how unique it is!!

Lastly, there is a little storage nook for towels and toys in Leo’s bathroom (to the right of the tub) which comes in super handy! There is also a big drawer bin under this nook while we don’t use it quite yet, I’m anticipating we will really start to use this space once both kids are a bit older …. this is where they will put their dirty laundry … hopefully … if we train them to put it here!! LOL!!

Alrighty … on to LEO’S ROOM!! Leo’s nursery in our old house was equivalent to his bathroom in this new house … we hung out there ALL THE TIME!! It’s not the case in this home because Leo is on a totally different sleep routine and we mainly use his room for his diaper changes, reading books (Leo is obsessed with reading books lately!!) and of course, sleeping!! As Leo get’s older and once he is officially a big brother, I imagine a LOT more time will be spent in this little room of his!

When we were designing this room I wanted it to have more colour and for it to be different than the predictable blue that everyone expected … so, being that Leo is a LEO and he has so much lion stuff, I wanted to go with a safari theme!! I don’t think this room would be as amazing and safari-like without the big beautiful drapes from Q Design Centre and the adorable irregular dots from Urban Walls … and yes, for those wondering … each of these dots was put on the walls one by one! LOL! The big giraffe and the adorable wicker pendant light from Lulu and Georgia additionally bring the safari theme to life!!

The big shag rug in Leo’s room is from Rugs USA and the faux zebra rug was a gift to Leo (however, I feel conflicted about it and the lion head as we certainly don’t support trophy hunting and I wouldn’t choose these items again in another nursery but on the other hand, they aren’t real, they’re just cute!), the floating shelves are from IKEA, the crib is from Pottery Barn, the wood ladder, glider (which gets a TON of use thanks to Leo’s book obsession!) and the change table are from Wayfair. All of the furniture in Leo’s room was from our old house and the Vancouver nursery!

I get a lot of questions about the windows in Leo’s room and why they are so low to the ground and the truth behind this is that we weren’t going to raise the ceiling at all originally as they were already around 7 feet so I had gone ahead and placed the orders for the windows from Plygem in that room, and then Justin decided to raise them up to 9 feet while I was away and at first I was a bit peeved that he did that but then I remembered that it’s his house too so I went along with it but we didn’t think about how it would affect the height of the windows until they were installed but it turns out that I actually love how low they are … they remind me of hobbit windows!! LOL!

Also, Leo and Nacho get a kick out of standing in front of those windows and looking outside to see what’s going on in the big wide world! If I had the option, I would have loved to have been able to make the windows about 2 feet taller!! To me, windows are such an important source of natural light, they’re so good for the soul and my mood … I think the more windows you have, the happier the space feels!

The wainscotting in Leo’s room is from Metrie, it only goes about halfway up the wall which gives it a classy, timeless feel rather than coming off as too trendy, the lighting is from Sylvania and the walls are painted Simply White by Benjamin Moore! Many of you have spotted the “I Love You So” print in Leo’s room and this is from Minted … I don’t believe they carry the particular frame that I had any more but they have a ton of other beautiful options! We keep all of Leo’s books in baskets on the floor so he can easily pick out a book and hand it to us to read to him … once we are done reading the book, he takes it from us and puts it away in his basket and says “all done” … I love this about him so much …. he loves to keep his room tidy … let’s hope this carries into his teens! LOL!!

We ended up splitting Leo’s closet up into two individual closets becasue if we kept it a regulae closet, the doors would have taken up too much room in this space and I really didn’t want bi-folding doors, so, by splitting it up it makes the space more narrow which I thought was going to be an issue but Stor-X designed the closet space so well that I’m able to keep so much stuff in there including all of Leo’s clothes, socks, shoes, momentous, accessories, travel gear and extra bedding!! It’s so crazy to know how much stuff you can store in a small space if it’s maximized to its full potential!! Not to mention, all of the shelves and drawers are adjustable so when Leo grows, we can adjust the hanging space so there is enough room!!

  3. LOOOVE Leo’s bathroom. I am obsessed with those kohler faucets, unfortunately they weren’t in our budget for our bathroom reno last year! Love the gold!

Can’t wait for new baby’s nursery reveal! Will Leo share a bathroom with the baby?

  4. Hi!! I love the ship mural. ?
I was wandering witch of the 3 types of wallpaper u used ? Thank you!

  5. Hi Team Jilly! Maybe this isn’t an issue for Leo, but I was wondering if anything is used on the ladder, lamp, or changing table to prevent them from falling if he (or other children) were climbing/playing on them? If so, do you have recommendations?

  6. Where is Leo’s little heart blanket from? I’m having a little boy in August and would love that in orange.

  7. Beautiful! Where is the toilet paper roll holder and those cute round “hooks” from hanging Leos robe?
    Thank you!

  8. Hi Jillian, Leo’s bedroom and bathroom are both beautiful. You are so talented. Thank you for sharing. I noticed that you have the Ubbi Diaper Pail in Leo’s room. I am an expecting new mom and I’m curious if after almost 2 years the scent is still contained in the diaper pail and if you would recommend it. I’m looking forward to your feedback on it. Thank you!

  9. Where is Leo’s knitted blanket from? Or if it’s handmade would you know where I can find the pattern? Love his room!

    1. Stunning bath! Didn’t notice you mention the tub! I remember it being so spacious in previous photos. Where is it from?

  10. Hi, I love Leo’s bathroom and I’m just wondering what the grey paint colour on the walls is called that you used in there?
    Thanks!!

    1. Hi Jillian. I’m decorating the nursery for my second right now and would love to know where the pouf and blanket with the hearts are from. Thanks!

  11. I love love love Leo‘s nursery! It inspired me going with the color ‘yellow’ for my second girl (38 weeks pregnant… wahhh). One question, where are the yellow curtains from?? I would really love to hear back from you since I’m searching for curtains forever. We also have a high ceiling and a special window length.. Are those black-out curtains?
I appreciate any response. Thanks so much!

  12. I love the light but it looks like lulu and Georgia doesn’t ship to Canada? How did you order it? Thanks

  13. Hi Team Jilly! I commented already a few days ago but somehow don’t see my post. Since I had a question, short version: I love Leo’a bedroom. It inspired me on going with yellow for my second girl (#almostdue).
    Where are the curtains from??
    Thanks in advance 🙂

  14. Such beautiful rooms Jillian! Leo’s spaces are perfect!
May I ask what you use for room darkening in his bedroom?

  15. LOVING the golden accents!

Wondering where the blanket with hearts is from? Or if it’s a handmade gift?? Adorable!

  16. Love this room! Can I please ask where the pendant light is from? Neither of the links work, and it is exactly what I’m looking for. Would really appreciate it.

    Thanks!!

  17. Amazing work as usual, Jillian! If you don’t mind me asking, where did you get the bathroom vanity/cabinets from? Were they custom made?

  18. I have been searching like a mad woman on the internet looking for that gorgeous pouf. If you could please tell me where you purchased it I would be extremely appreciative!! Thank you!

  19. Hey Jill,

  24. How many sets of Urban Wall Irregular Dots did you use for Leo’s walls? Ordering them for our nursery and not sure how many I need. Just doing one walk which is about 10’x 12’. Thank you!
