Love It or List It Vancouver: Sharlene & David

Well hello there!! I have to say, I LOVED last night’s episode of Love It Or List It Vancouver! Sharlene, David, Chloe, and Olivia were amazing to work with … and I have to send some props out to Sharlene and David, they handled some pretty bad news about their home like total champs!! Upon inspection, Kenny found out that their WHOLE house is caving in the middle! We discovered it was missing a footing which means the house obviously wasn’t built properly and WE had to fix it before doing ANY of the renovations. Not only that, but the air ducts throughout the entire house were covered with black mold. They had to have a Vent Cleaning Service come out and clean the entire duct system! Kenny and I were so nervous about this … so much so that we thought we might even have to walk away from the project … I was devastated!

We then had to pass on the terrible news to Sharlene and David … it’s never nice to hear that an unexpected issue is going to cost you $33,000 that you never budgeted for!! This meant we had to review our to-do list and unfortunately we had to remove the renovation of their kitchen. I think this decision made the most sense because the kitchen is something that doesn’t need a TON of work, all it really needs is a little facelift such as new appliances and countertops and a fresh new coat of paint over the old wood cabinets!

Even though we decided to remove the renovation of the kitchen from the list, I still had to renovate the bathroom, master bedroom and ensuite, create an office for Sharlene and enlarge Chloe’s bedroom, update Olivia’s bedroom, create a reading nook and increase their storage space. No biggie … right?? RIGHT!

I’m so pleased with how their renovation turned out even with the bumpy start we had! Thankfully we fixed everything up and now this family has a home that has a solid foundation! We want to send a HUGE shout out to the crew at Crack or Jack Concrete Repair and Valley Crew Contracting for all of their hard work here!  We ended up giving them brand new flooring throughout their home which made a HUGE difference in the overall look and feel of the home. We also opened up their landing to give them the nook and seating area they had hoped for, I loved the fact that we were able to make this happen with the space that was so underutilized! Check out that new unbelievable hallway light too … gorgeous!! Thanks once again, Design Lighting! My favourite part about this space is the fact that we preserved the quotes they had written on their wall and had them framed! It’s such a sweet personal touch that they can enjoy for years and years to come!

I’m in L-O-V-E with Sharlene and David’s new master bedroom (just look at that live edge redwood headboard and that walk in closet!) BUT I’m even more so in love with their ENSUITE!! OMG … it literally feels like you’ve escaped and gone straight to the spa when you open up their door. How stunning is their floor?! The crew at Shaw Floors and Olympia Tile and Stone teamed up for this project and it turned out nothing short of INCREDIBLE!!

Chloe and Olivia’s shared bathroom turned out perfect, we gave them a brand new deep soaker tub, a double vanity, heated floors and LOTS of storage … LOL!! I know how much “stuff” teenage girls tend to collect in their bathrooms!! We totally revamped both Chloe and Olivia’s rooms, they picked out their new beds and we added a desk to each of the rooms! Does the wallpaper look familiar to some of you in Chloe’s room?? That’s right, it’s one of my wallpapers from my collaboration with Milton & King, this print is called “Tropic like it’s Hot“! And how about Shar’s new office space?? It turned out fantastic in my eyes and I’m SURE she will be productive in this dedicated area!

While we weren’t able to give them EVERYTHING they were hoping for in this renovation we were able to give most of their home a stunning overhaul which in turn increased the value of their home by a whopping $225,000!

A huge thank you to Janis Nicolay is in order for the photos!! Plus, be sure to follow Love it or List It Vancouver on Facebook for episode updates and more fun behind-the-scene photos.

Until next week!

  1. Loved this Episode. I was so happy they decided to ‘ Love it’..

The ‘house in the woods’ was beautiful but I LOVE the outcome of their Renovation. I’m thinking that with some paint etc, they could probly do the kitchen themselves? at least for a Short term renew.. Everything turned out Beautifully.
    Great Job, Jillian and Team

  2. You ROCKED it last night, Jillian! Sooo good! I think this might’ve been my favorite! The floor in the master bath… AHH-MAZING! I LOVED EVERYTHING about this renovation! And you looked STUNNING in that dress! Cheers! Xo! – Ashley

  3. I love everything about ALL the episodes of the show! But, is it just me, or do other Lower Mainland viewers spend the entire hour searching for clues to identify what municipality the homeowners live in and where Todd is searching? Some weeks it’s easier than others but last night? Where was that lovely home in the woods with a view? Mission? PoCo? 40 minutes down the highway in what direction?? Is there a reason you aren’t more specific?
    Thank you!

  4. That was a great episode. Loved how you injected so much personality into their spaces. I just wish you had painted the kitchen cabinets for them to show what can be done because she looked a little skeptical when you mentioned the idea! We have similar cabinets which we painted because I could not justify the expense of replacing wood cabinets that were in condition. They look like they’re new. Most people don’t even realize they are the same cabinets. Then they would be super motivated to save up for countertops to finish the job, and appliances can be swapped out at any time.

  5. Just loved this reno and felt they made the right decision to “love it”. And I really liked the flamingo wallpaper! Keep up with those fabulous designs, and thanks to you and your team for such a great show. Of course, Todd is a great part of the show too.

  6. Love the round wrought iron table beside the door in the master bedroom. Could you tell me where it’s from, please.

  7. Wonderful entertaining and interesting program – small request – could you minimize the teenage-style bickering and arguing – however with adult-style competition and disagreements are OK.
    Thank you

  8. Hi! I’m wondering what the green paint color is in the first teen’s bedroom and where her comforter is from?! Thanks!

  9. Hi jilllian!!!
I looooove your work, amazing every time! I need to know where to find the oleo abstract painting on the corner of the main bedroom… do you have any pict of this corner?

I had to take a picture of my tv and the color is not as beautyfull as the real one!!!

    Thank you!! Following you!!!!
